That's exactly the problem with my Tesla. Because of the mudflaps, everything got stuck behind it and started rusting after just 18 months.

Without the flaps none of this would have stuck.

On my Corolla I always pull them forward and rinse well when I wash the car. Not had any problems up to now.
 
repair estimate 1600€. now ball going to import company if they will cover it as warranty or not.
I do wonder if they claim its owner's fault, as it is not avoidable with normal usage. I plan to have a speech at Toyota dealership in later announced date if such happens.
 
btw one of my spot welds in rear hatch area seem also have small (0.5mm) rust dot.
it has definitely not had any mechanical contact from outside. will ping this also to my dealer once get answer to that first topic.

btw if anyone has good solution how to protect the wheel area in the future to avoid any future issues I'd love to hear what would work.

There is kevlar plates for rear sills that are used in Recce cars but not sure if that covers the exposed part. asked from one rally shop for details. If it helps, getting em.

Ok, now I am getting worried. Got my car for 3 weeks, 800km, but the plan is to almost daily drive it.
Tomorrow will be the search for some place to rust proof it
 
Michaels is also rust proofed, but not out to the edges of the wheelwells apparently. Something to ask for. I will ask when I do the intermediate maintenence proofing.

Also, if the car is used during winter, don't wait, best is to do the first proofing before any salt (water) has gotten a chance to find their way into any crevices. So winter delivery => straight to rustproofing.

Imho much more important then PPF that almost costs like a nice fully documented respray anyway ;)
 
Yes it has had rust proof treatment by a local shop - needs to do refurb this summer so asking to do problem areas aswell.
 
Fun to hear what is the recommended fix process for that rear hatch frame - whole body replacement? its not so easy to fix..
Not sure if its a common issue but partially the paint thickness in GR is not very much -> more prone for rust issues.
 
Does anyone have experience of Krown rust protection ?
Good/Bad, how is your Yaris after the protection etc ?

Are we all getting a little carried away regarding rust. We have a Toyota built from 2020, not a Datsun from the 70's. Car's these days don't tend to rust for fun.
Stating the obvious metal will rust.
As we have purchased a car that has been totally designed and built by Toyota. I would hope Toyota would rectify most issues regarding rust as long as the car's bodywork /chassis hasn't been modified in anyway.
If you drill into the bodywork or even underseal your car it would invalidate any warranty.

I would like to agree with you, and I have heard myself stating the same about. Earlier.

If I compare with the BMW I had before the Yaris it is a whole other game under the car, don't have the knowledge to explain how and why but it is starting to look brown here and there, although still not on metal frame/bars/floor.
The thread-starter here had rust on his fender already. We live in countries with full on winter and tons of salt on the roads, that if for sure a game changer to start with.

I have just finished sealing mine with Bilt Hamber UC and S50. I only got it in January and being in the highlands they do love to shower the roads in salt. It only has 5000 miles and I was surprised by the surface rust on the subframes and especially the ends of the anti roll bar.

I’ll be honest, it may be a modern car but it reminds me very much of my mk1 Focus RS. I probably won’t be using mine over the winter but want to at least use it in the wet.

I carried out a full paint correction and ceramic coating while I was at it. It’s spent 3 years at a dealership. So the valeters had been working their magic on it for quite some time.
