GR86 Reducing Front End Noise

I’m contemplating taking them off…got a banging headache from a 7hr drive up to Scotland thanks to the front end humming.
 
A lot of people there saying that the v-brace nuts/bolts were under torqued and that tightening them helped. I'm not sure I've actually experienced the noise that everyone is talking about, but next time I have the bonnet open, I'll check that.
 
Mine weren’t tight (didn’t check torque 18ft lbs I think but managed to nip up)

It’s a very noticeable noise, literally the first thing I noticed when I got the car, thought it was the tyres

That's an interesting thread, thanks for posting it. It's nice to know it's not just me and my fussy ears!

I'm going to remove them for the next motorway trip and see how it affects the nvh.

I’ve got 9.5hrs down from Inverness on Monday and packed a spanner!
 
How is your fix going? Still okay with no problems?
Looking at this material below and wondering if it would work.

You will be better off with deadening material. Isolator is more for airbourne noise.

Had same thought. Think expanding foam inside the rods would not have any negitive effect and may be a positive bit of help.

Interesting. Haven’t noticed humming. Will check. If need Tightening and looking in replacing with Alloy ones or your fix and/or expanding foam in etc. if think necessary.
 
Agree with the comments about the noise from the front end, I have tried this solution with 22mm inside diameter silicone hose warmed up and pushed over the bracing arms to damp out nose transmission from the strut towers. To my ears a massive improvement from the front of the car and only £9 for the silicone hose per meter. All I now notice is noise from the back of the car, but that is for another day.

This looks like a first try solution. Well worth giving it a go.

That seems like a great solution. Where did you buy it from? I can only find it for double that.
 
That looks like a great idea, looks very neat and will resist temperature in the engine bay.

Where did you get the hose for that price? cheapest I can find is £22.

Like your thinking @Nick63 - I've found some nice 22mm Blue hose on AliExpress that'd brighten up my engine bay at the same time. Did you use a heat gun or hot water to expand the tubing? EDIT: Must have been typing my reply just as you were posting the above. I've plenty of PTFE spray in the garage so that should suffice ...
I'll just need to find the torque figures for those nuts now... Found it. 16Nm. :)

Just used a little bit of silicone spray, but it was very hot here when I did it, though heat gun a good idea now it is cooler. I was going to go for coloured pipe, but the red does not match my car very well, the blue looks closer to the Toyota colour though. AliExpress has a few good little GR86 goodies......
