GR Yaris Plugs

I don't think there would be a problem running 0.7 or 0.8mm regarding a misfire.

For those monitoring this thread - What do you make of the fact that the stock plug is gapped at 0.7mm and the aftermarket NGK plugs are gapped at 0.8?
Personally I’d go with 0.7 gap, gives a slightly smaller but more powerful spark against a bigger but weaker one. At full throttle when load of fuels pouring into cylinder a stronger spark gives a more consistent burn

out of interest: when I was young, the latest shit to put in our japanese rice cans were iridium plugs from denso. are those still recommended?

I recently swapped out my 18000 mile plugs for a new set of the Ruthenium NGK's, gapped at 0.7mm . I'd had what a thought was a slight missfire at WOT up a hill earlier in the year with 20c temps. & as a result I'd taken it to my local Toyota garage in case it was a failing coil but they couldn't find an issue , (they said it could have been poor fuel). So I thought I'd change the plugs out and see if this would help.
I think my cars allways slightly lumpier idle than other GR's Ive been in & made worse by an engine mount insert...Not any more, it's way smoother with noticably less vibration coming into the cabin. It's harder to tell if it's better higher up the rev range atm but overall I'm really pleased with the result.

Litchfield suggested that I should expect to go though plugs much sooner than default scheduling @ +100hp but to continue using the OE heat range. Plan is do the same as you at 18k service

FWIW, the NGK race plugs for the G16E is R2558E-8, 9, or 10. Iridium center, platinum outer. ¥7,200 each.

Changed my plugs on the weekend, originals had done 38k kms. Starts and idles better now, possibly smoother at light throttle.

The car does seem hard on plugs, they don't last anywhere near what Toyota seems to reckon they should.

I'm at 70k km and have noticed a slight hesitation pulling hard around 4500 rpm so I'll change them again.

Just picked up a set of oem ngk for mine this evening. 50 euro delivered. Daily driving mine in Tallinn traffic for 45000km has taken its toll on my plugs. Really need to start giving it a good blast every weekend to get some heat in it to keep it in top shape. Pull in 3rd and 4th seems a little sluggish at high revs along with slightly lumpy idle. Hoping a fresh set of plugs next week does the trick along with a clean out blast down motorway this weekend.

guessing Toyota themselves couldn't have known the relatively short plugs life for these engines so could only put an arbitrary figure on milage, it's up to us as long time users to fine tune a realistic change schedule
