GR Yaris Plugs

Ordered from local dealer here 60€ for 3 plugs + delivery.
Kiitos! Searching elsewhere was fruitless so three plugs are currently winging their way to me from Finland. Crazy that these parts seem so hard to find.

Really hoping these make a difference. Starting and pickup on tip-in is really bad now.

Just ordered some in the UK, I’ve had a misfire happen a few times and then not occur for a while but if you leave it for a few days it has trouble starting or cold idling. Originally i thought it was a coil pack but reading the stories here and being around 36,000 miles plugs sound like the solution.

Obviously I could take it to a dealer for warranty but the cost and time for plugs or a coil is probably break even.
Just an update on my order, no UK stock so coming from US. Supplier said possibly by early this week but as of yet nothing :(

Sorry for not the greatest photo I’m at 33,000 miles and have had a misfire that’s intermittent and if leaving the car for a while it’s cold start needed some revs. I’d also say mpg has been down slightly so it’s plugs or coil pack I expect. By the time I drop at the dealer leave it and then pick it up I’m cheaper buying plugs and coil although need access to a proper reader (Hampshire) to see what coil is misfiring.

However just swapped over had an initial stuttering and then after 30 seconds nothing. Only done a small journey so far but feeling good it might be the solution.

Good to hear. It really does seem that the plugs are toast after as little as 25k miles/40k km, the recommended change interval is crazy.

What gap did you set them to? I seem to recall it was 0.7 mm?

I left it at default which was 0.8mm. Just done a 30min trip with no issues to report but like others have mentioned it does feel better.

Swapped my plugs this weekend after reading this thread, and can only echo the same results, with the originals having done 26k miles. Car immediately sounded smoother on tickover, much happier pulling away and around town, feels less likely to drop the revs and stall. Feels smoother all along the rev range, a bit like having lovely cold boost weather. Who needs a remap??

Also managed to have a near total disaster after getting distracted and attempting to put the third spark plug in before I'd removed the old one 🤦‍♂️ This broke the insulating part on the old plug leaving pieces of it deep in the hole. Had to mate a piece of garden hose to the vacuum cleaner to fit down in the hole and get all the bits out in case they went into the cylinder when I removed the plug. Total idiot moment, but disaster averted. I'm used to working on Mini engines where the plugs all stick out the front :D

And just to update I’ve done some longer journeys now and can confirm the misfire I was experiencing has gone.

Recommend to those coming up to 30k miles worth swapping instead of waiting to 60k considering the cheap price.

Hi, how do you find mentioned ruthenium NGK spark plugs? Got a Litchfield tune and was thinking to give them a shot, although manual says to "use iridium tipped spark plugs only". Thanks!

With the talk of plugs, although I've only just passed 10,000 miles /3yrs old, for the sake of 5mins, I whipped one of mine out to check. Here's what I found. I'm inclined to change them for the modest cost of new plugs. And then the next change will be in another c.10,000 miles at the 6yr standard service interval.
Any thoughts to the contrary i.e. am I wasting my time and cash given the current condition of plugs?
Tia

Plugs degrade with use, not time, so at 10k I’d say it was debatable whether there’s any benefit at all in changing them.

Having said that, it won’t hurt and they aren’t super expensive (3-cylinders ftw!) so I guess it’s up to you 😁

In addition there has been coil issues so it can also become an issue if your plugs are worn. .

Good point. I’ve had a failed coil pack, but not a failed plug

Off the back of this thread it seemed like a no brainer to me to change my plugs as only £60. My GRY is 3yrs old and has done a touch over 11k miles, mostly B road blasts on a weekend. I haven't had chance to get out for a drive yet but looking at the plugs it won't have done any harm. With a 14mm deep wall socket and taking my time with torque settings for plugs and coil pack bolts, it took me about 45mins.

For those monitoring this thread - What do you make of the fact that the stock plug is gapped at 0.7mm and the aftermarket NGK plugs are gapped at 0.8?
