GR86 PH Buying Guide

I am rather pleased that for the 86 Toyota did not go after the 0-60 time and put in higher gearing to get it in second. Porsche do compensate for their gearing by having more power and torque, and you can change gears as often but not at the same revs ranges. Back from a weekend trip up to Inveraray and I definitely using the clutch more of the time compared to previous higher gearted cars, and more fun in the process. Interestingly a number of Porsche owners have said in the past their most 'fun' model was the 2.7 / 2.9 Boxster/Cayman as it made you work for it rather than simply delivering it on a plate. I always said that I preferred the Lotus with the 1.8 n/a 5 speed box than the 1.8 Supercharge with the 6 speed, and that was it put you to work more of the time.
The whole 0-60 has for non track used become simply a indicator for me, anything that has an established performance auto box will simply make that time quicker and in the majority of cases there is no manual option which rules a lot of cars out for me personally as I don't have a motorway/city commute these days to factor into the equation.
Agree with MK, anyone can get into a 3-4 sec car (and most are now auto) and press the gas pedal and do it. I have an old PH t-shirt that puts this very simply by saying "Anyone can drive a fast car, only some people can drive a car fast".
"Straights are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers". Think I still have that t-shirt somewhere too

A lot of focus on the handful of less positive comments over on Pistonheads (inc those from an obvious troll looking for attention) but not so much on the rest of the overwhelmingly positive replies the piece seems to have received.

Reading the stuff here you'd think the car had received a pasting whereas I just see most of the replies are appreciative of what the GR86 is, I'm not seeing all the negativity reported here.

You all know what you have and why you own the cars so I'm sure you don't need the affirmation of strangers on the Internet for reassurance but I think the GR86 came out of that piece in a positive light, as has the MK3 MR2 in a later article... which came as more of a surprise.
