GR86 Pearl White GRR

2 weeks in…what’s happened.

Picked up a slow puncture in the first week -just one of those things. Went and got it repaired and then they found a nail in it as well! Tyre is on its last warning before it needs to be replaced 😬

On a more positive note, car has been cleaned and I’ve put in some FX3D “Rock Guards”.

Really like the simplicity of the installation, even if you can see they’re 3D printed. Hoping they will provide a bit of protection from road bits and pieces, down the side of the car especially, and I would say they are relatively subtle.

It’s a lovely day here and I’m off out for a drive to the pub…have a great weekend all!

6 months (pretty much) into Ownership - absolutely flown by! So what’s new?

Added some little touches of suede this weekend (courtesy of aliexpress 😅)

Apologies, the rear window is absolutely filthy! I blame the hosepipe ban. But trimming these top tether caps has dramatically reduced window reflection, which was really bothering me.

Had a bit of material left over and did the centre console button surround (was a PITA, full disclosure - this was the forth attempt). Will see how this holds up. I did do a bit more tucking around the buttons after this picture, as I couldn’t help myself.

Put in a grab handle strap in the boot, using a tow strap - inspired by @PVGR. I have shortened it a bit, but might end up still being a touch too long, but we will see.

Also did install the aliexpress bonnet gas struts, but I think they were causing the bonnet to rattle and were holding it up against the catch. I’ve taken them off for now and will try them again at a later date. It might of just been me not closing it properly 😅

Next up, remove the v bars to see if the humming noise disappears/ reduces. Then figure out if I invest in a set of nameless bars. If it doesn’t, then I’ll just have to get a louder exhaust/ smaller dia wheels and quieter tyres 😂

Cheers for now, I’m off for a BBQ!

Is it a good match for the other suede in the car, and do you have a link to it? I never noticed the reflection from those caps, until I took my my sunglasses....they are really noticeable if you don't have polarised lenses. So might wrap mine if I can.

It’s a bit on the darker side compared to the door suede, hoping it may fade out a bit over time.

As the bits I have wrapped are not directly next to each other I don’t think it’s as obvious .

Here’s the link if you decide to go for it 👍

Cheers. Cheap anyway so I'm grabbing some. I might also try wrapping the little bit just in front of the gear lever, just to make that area less plasticky.

Getting caliper envy here
I originally was going to get the base model but there weren't any more available in June.
Kind of glad I ended up with the premium. I will say though I would have preferred black over white. I just couldn't wait any longer LOL

You’re lucky to have them in the USA, we have to modify ours at significant cost to get those calipers!

Sometimes I have to admit I’m an idiot.
Kerbed the passenger side wheel last weekend 😭🤬.

I would say I didn’t even crunch it that hard, but it’s taken a fair bit of leading edge off 😱

After much swears and a cry, I decided to give it fixing it a go and making it look less horrid.

Some sanding, touch of filler primer and some satin black wheel paint. It’ll do for now. As at this rate there’s no guarantee I’m not going to do it again 😬 🤦‍♂️

On a more positive note, took the V bars off today. Absolute revelation in terms of noise/resonance reduction for me. Will have to look at cost/benefit of getting some nameless solid ones instead…

Managed to score myself a lightly used HKS Legamax Axle Back from eBay this weekend. Collected Saturday and managed to fit it today.

I usually manage to make a relatively simple job very difficult, but this was thankfully straightforward!

Gives it a real bassy tone on cold start and blips of the throttle now, definitely gives it a much more “serious” noise fitting for a sports car without being obnoxious.

Crikey! How is it April already!?

Only thing that’s new is I’ve just put on the Aero Cover from Driven.Media.

Was £136 inc. delivery - a fair bit cheaper than going for a GR-branded one.

Initially it took a while to hear anything after ordering back in the middle of Feb, so I emailed them to check on progress. They replied promptly and pointed out the bit I didn’t read…that the stock was due end of March. Wasn’t in a rush so was happy to wait.

Turned up on the 31st March thankfully, and after cleaning the car today thought this was the best time to put it on.

Only thing is you have to apply the tape yourself. After many trial runs at fitting and lining up with an “ingenious” yee-ha method, I went for it.

After one heart-in-mouth moment when it stuck on the way in, I think it’s managed to align fine. And because it’s “unbranded” it blends and completes the rear nicely.

Let’s just hope it sticks 🤞

Looks good. How long did it take to come? Did you have to pay any extra tax?

Thanks 👍 It took 4 days to arrive after they got stock back in.

I haven’t received anything from DHL yet…but I understand that it might take a couple of weeks or so for the import fee bill to come through….

After doing some digging it looks like I could be paying an extra £45ish, because the total value of consignment exceeded the £135 threshold by a pound! So both Import VAT and Customs Duty apply (Doh!).

Would bring the total cost to £181, which I still don’t think is too bad when factoring in delivery taxes etc.

DHL charged me for customs and tax due prior to releasing the package from the local depot in the UK when I had an order shipped from Driven media. Hopefully you’re in the clear.

Ah ok, that’s good to know, cheers. Fingers crossed it’s already been done and dusted then.

Will report back if I hear anything 👍

Also Realised i forgot to add my to do list 😅:

- The infamous window washer fix (as I’ve now got the annoying window click now!).

- 3D print myself some wind deflectors: https://www.gr86.org/threads/free-ish-wind-deflectors.5445/
Summer is coming and I like having my windows down.

- Some form of protection on the bottom door section, as they’ve been picking up a few scuffs.🙄

- Bonnet rattle, typically when it’s warm, think it’s been mentioned on the forum before. Might either put some tape round the latch if it’s workable, or look at the bonnet bumper cushions and see if they can be adjusted.
