Hello!

I have just taken ownership of this beaut today after patiently waiting for it to be ceramic coated.

Was deliberating on colour for a good while, originally thinking of going for black or silver…but seeing this in the metal soon changed my mind!

Bought from Chris over at Hot Hatches in Beaconsfield, who has been really great to deal with. Offering out some good cleaning advice and not being pushy throughout the buying process.

I’ve just come out of a 987.1 Cayman base - which has been my daily for the past 4.5 years. I will miss it dearly, but time was beginning to catch up with her and thought it was time for a change. Picture of it going round the ‘Ring for nostalgic purposes:

Very much looking forward to the new driving experience and getting involved on the zoo, any tips and tricks of course are most welcome!

A pic of it in the sunshine from first day at home:

I’ll be heading over to West Berks Cars and Coffee this weekend if any other local zoo members are interested. Will have to try my best to avoid all the puddles still around!

Cheers all, from the TiGRR

Interesting that you didn’t just go for newer Cayman.

Welcome to the club, you chose the best colour.
Thanks Alistair.

Yes it’s a fair point, and something I did consider, but in the same price bracket it’s potentially a 10-12 year old 981, or more money for a 718 which has a (albeit turbocharged) four cylinder anyway.

I figured go for something different and newer and see how it goes. Before I got the Cayman I did look at an early GT86, but wasn’t a fan of the cloth interior - thought the facelift was better - and the GR better still which is another reason I went for it in the end.

How long a job is the ceramic coating and what's the cost these days - assume it involved some detox since car wasn't showroom clean? Think I might have mine done although I'm 12 months into ownership, drive it daily, so it will have some hidden grimme to be removed.

Had to look twice at this - the reg is literally one letter away from my white one!

Hope you enjoy, they are sensational cars.
I must admit I did the same with your car when I first joined the forum. Nearly sent you a message…then I looked again and realised 😅😂

And thanks, I’m looking forward to seeing what these are all about!

As another fellow white GR86 owner, beware of dirt/melted tyres from track on this area. Need to scrub them clean before they set and never comes out any more!

Depends on what you want done. If your car has never been touched then adding a Single Stage Machine Polish to your Ceramic Coating package is probably in order, so as to remove swirls/marring etc. Cost is anywhere between £600-700 for a full preparation, machine polish and 5 year ceramic coating. The car will likely be away for 2-3 days. Ideally, once collected the car should not be washed for at least 7 days after coating to allow it to properly gas-off and bond. I've obviously used UK prices for my example.
A year old car won't be a problem. On my course we detailed, machine polished and coated an absolute sh*t-box and got it looking like new.

Can’t even remember where I’ve posted a picture of it, so you’ve a keen eye and memory! 😎

Happy to be corrected, but imagine it would be 3-5 days depending on condition of the paint/prep time. For example, they had my car for a week ( I wasn’t in a rush to get it, as I had a lot on) went with Gyeon Q2 Mohs coating (should last 3yrs if looked after) which was £710 inc VAT. I would say the paintwork was pretty decent beforehand too.

Some detailers near me look to be charging into £1k+ if needs a lot of prep and you go for a more durable coating. And it is of course much cheaper to DIY it, but I’m not confident enough to do that 😂

What sonic said 👍😂

As others have said when the sun is out or the light is hitting it right the pearl really does come alive on the white. That said it’s more noticeable in person than in photographs. I was at a cars and coffee event at Bicester last summer and there was an alpine in pearl white which also looked very different in person as you walked around it compared the the photos I attempted to take of it!

Thought I recognised that fencing… I picked my 86 from Chris in October last year - a pleasure to deal with, leagues ahead of main dealers!

Hope you enjoy the car, it’s the kind of motor that is difficult to drive smoothly (slowly on the controls when you’re taking it easy works best) but when you’ve mastered it, it’s an extremely satisfying thing to drive. Also daily mine.

Enjoy!!

Thanks! Glad to hear you had a great buying experience too, certainly gives me comfort in going for this particular car from Chris - I hear he’s looking for more GR86s and can’t get enough of them at moment!

I must say I think the cold mornings this week have done me a favour in forcing me to take it easy and try to be as smooth as possible. Plus, it gives me a chance to get used to the controls, gear shift/clutch and all the tech I didn’t have in the Cayman. Very much looking forward to it getting warmer so I can push it on a bit!

Thanks @t5boy and @White_TiGRR - I thought I should probably join and say hello :)
