GR Yaris Overrated : Toyota GR Yaris

I mostly agree with him based on my test drive. It's a ten tenths car which was great fun and I very nearly did it but got cold feet, house stuff needed doing so held off. I also wanted something that felt special everyday which for me the GR86 does. It does have far more potential, but a deciding factor is how much I wanted to put into getting as I wanted it. The Yaris feels like a Yaris during every day use which some like but horses for courses. I bet if it was too hardcore they'd complain the other way. I've said before that no car is perfect. Well done to Toyota for doing something for those who like cars. It's all milk floats after this.

Journos do this though. Car comes out, best thing ever, sell your Nan to get it. 6mths-1yr later, something else comes along then all of a sudden the shortcomings of the old car come out. Where was your reporting on it before? I bet give it a year and they'll mention more of the shortcomings the 86 has.

But at this point, should we really be nitpicking so much? These cars will be gone soon. Like humans we all have flaws and that makes up the character of the car and creates that connection.

Looks remarkably like clickbait.

As @Ecsrobin pointed out, it contradicts his original review of the car. I doubt his opinion has changed that much, but an article saying it's good but not ideal for him wouldn't get the clicks, which doesn't attract the advertisers...

If it's what he truly believes then it's also fine. His opinion, and he has a platform to shout it from.

I'm still glad I've got one, and I got the convenience pack, which I've been told countless times is the wrong one (often by people who've never driven one!).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and one thing that I have to give him is that the seating position wasn't good for me. In the beginning I told myself that it would be fine but a year in I ended up getting myself some Bucket seats, now I'm finally feeling at ease ergonomically.

Overall I have to strongly disagree with him though, the Yaris is very special to drive.

Completely but then why not write “The power of the crowd should never be underestimated, as anyone who’s watched Gladiator will attest. Sometimes the crowd can be brutal in its judgement, while other times it gets carried away becoming quite irrational in its thoughts. And I went along with the crowd when actually I shouldn’t have.

Or something like that. It’s ok to say you got it wrong but he’s written it in a way that he thinks no one will have read his previous pieces.
True . And obviously that is just his opinion. Then he goes on about the power of the crowd etc. most of the reviews I looked at were positive but ultimately, i drove it , suited what I wanted ,and made my own decision. Surely that’s what’s is about , following the crowd argument seems a bit passe

One person's opinion compared to many you can read or listen to, opinions are free to give but they are only that persons. There is an old saying " you can't please all the people all of the time " but some of the points may be valid, but for 35k we ain't being ripped that's for sure. I'll get my coat 😉

Well he isn’t wrong is he ?
That’s why most of the threads are about lowering seats, add on power boxes , camber settings and improvements to gear shift with stuffing plastic in the torque mount.
I don’t know what car is better though or I would have bought that instead.

Some things I agree with - I would love for this car to have a DCT and more steering feel. Been driving DCT E90 M3 and these were the two main things that stood out for me

Definition -
ADHD - A chronic condition including hyperactivity and impulsiveness disorder demonstrated recently online by writing style. This is sensationalised to crave the attention they desire. In youtube land the craving is a plead to "please subscribe". This allows an economic income to be gained from one's ADHD.

That's not a medical definition of ADHD. Craving attention isn't a symptom or trait of ADHD.

He's either having a bad day, or he's just doing his job. Journalists change their mind depending on the brief they've been given by their editor.
A load of steaming p*sh basically.

Attention seeking or not this is a bad article written for one purpose and just to clarify totally OT...

And this author is full of it..
Thnx

Did you read that article you linked to that's about ADHD? (not the one about attention-seeking in children, which isn't about ADHD)

This one, the one you linked to:
symptom of ADHD.

The word "seeking" doesn't appear in it once. Attention-seeking is not a symptom, and you seem to be confusing the "attention defecit" bit as needing attention from others, when it refers to a lack of attention by the person who has ADHD.

Just to clarify.

I have to say a it's a well written piece and whilst it's his opinion he does somewhat put his finger in the wounds. I felt all of those things to be true on the standard car to one degree or another. There are a few mods that totally change the character of this car which some will like and some won't BUT the lightly modified Yaris that I brought recently addresses most of these issues and is a very different angry, buzzy, Asian giant hornet of a car - time to get the yellow paint...
Agree with this, most of his criticisms are things I've sought to improve one mine. Lower driving position, more go, a bit more noise, more aggressive steering geometry etc etc.

Some of the things you just can't get away from. 3 cylinders need a bigger flywheel because of the gaps between firing intervals, this will always result a lack of response compared to a good 4 cylinder sadly.

Dismissing that DCT comment as pure bait lol, no one in their right mind......
