GR86 LHD headunit on early batches?

100%, I test drive a Mk8 Golf Gti and at no point could I imagine living with everything being via the touchscreen, simple tasks seemed to be as hard as texting while driving. An ipad centre console might look great in the show room but they're a bugger to use when driving.
The 86 touchscreen stuff seems to be one off settings while the day to day usage are buttons and knobs.

We hired a car due to a flight delay, got a Golf. My god everything being controlled by a screen and menu upon menu. It drove me nuts and so unsafe. No idea how this is allowed.

I know, it all looks nice and tidy on the designers CAD, sitting in a show room Im sure its very 'smart' looking, but I dont get it! Im presuming they just employ people who dont really drive to make it look pretty.

Does anyone else think there screen is angled the wrong way? I think mine is angled towards the passenger... it should be more towards the driver.

Replying to a pretty old message, I just test drove today for the first time (mine is due in September) and also noticed the screen felt like it was angled more towards the passenger side. Pretty sure the knob was on the RHS it was a 72 plate car.

Anybody else noticed a difference between RHS/LHS and the angle of the screen?

Pretty sure, mine is flush and not angled. I just have the volume knob on the left, which I prefer anyway as every car I have ever owned has been on the left.

Yeah I'm hoping mine comes with LH knob and a flush screen (like you all my previous cars have had it on the left!) - it was a little off-putting tbh - maybe something that could be changed at a later date going down the aftermarket route though...

Aftermarket won't really work as a lot of the system settings are through the head unit.

Unless you get one of those techstreams or whatever it is called that some of the members have mentioned.

Ah yeah I just looked into it after writing my response.....lets just hope my sceen is facing the right way when my car arrives in September

Apologies as I haven’t read the full thread and it may already have been answered, but…

the demo I test drove had the volume on the right but the screen seemed slightly angled toward the passenger, is this now fixed and angled towards the driver in newer cars?

I mentioned this a few posts ago following my test drive of a 72 plate on Sunday…not sure there’s a definitive answer though - just hoping mines correct when it arrives!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems every car with the volume knob on the right also has the sreen angled the wrong way, is this right?
My volume knob is on the left. Yesterday I made a conscious effort to check, and the screen appears to sit perfectly level with the dash, it isn't angled either way that I can see.

Headunit isn't angled chaps, it sits parallel with the rest of the dash.

I thought it might have just been an illusion as everything in my BMW is angled towards the driver and therefore if it sits flush it 'feels' like its angled away from me in comparison - will get used to it in no time I'm sure!

Sure looked like it to me in the demo but maybe just an illusion.

Either way, the screen was rather dull and hard to see even with the brightness at max.

Our ePace display is parallel to the dash and it’s a PITA when the sun is overhead.. You can hardly see anything on it..

Ive a right hand knob... (would also rather the left knob!) and screen is flush//flat/not facing either way. Maybe someone had removed/replaced/fiddled with the demo unit

Mine is a left hand volume know and the first thing I noticed driving the car yesterday was that it felt like the screen was angled to the passenger. I think it it flush and appears angled away because most cars face the driver but I've got used it in a day already. Very strange there are differences out there.

I drove the red one and didn’t notice which which side the volume was on

So now that we're getting more collections, do we have an idea as to the 'knob distribution', and whether there is any rhyme or reason in the left v. right set ups?

I'll be able to contribute to this study when I collect my car on Friday.

I think I already know which side mine will be, cos when I was on the phone with the dealer the other day I'm sure I heard someone in the background saying "that Silver Fox is a right knob".

I started to read the recent post from Wu Yuk and saw the photo of his screen and I thought, that's strange as mine is opposite to this ( having the volume/home button on the left). Then I searched the site knowing the subject had been discussed before and happened upon your post Mr. Fox.

It did make me laugh - you have a excellent comedic way with words sir! Please keep it up
