GR86 LHD headunit on early batches?

On the right hand side for me. Nice and easy to reach from the steering wheel, which also has volume controls on it......

Have we established if it's just early birds who have right hand volume?

They screwed up the order so not everyone who has their car is an early bird (pre-official orders opening) right?

Trying to see if there is some logic here but probably not :ROFLMAO:

I’m hoping they ran out of Left and Right and stuck one of these in mine “A no knobber“ 🫰

Home button is on the left. Its annoying.

Android auto is also annoying as it's slow to start up and disconnects frequently. Then have to reach over to hit the home button etc...

I also don't like how low the screen is for satnav purposes. I might just get a phone mount and use that as I do at the moment.

I appreciate these are just the usual getting familiar with the car gripes, but I already really miss the MINI rotary knob media interface. It was so intuitive and perfectly placed.

I'm not normally a whiney old man (despite the name!) 😉

Had the disconnect thing (with my GRY), and it was because of the cable not fitting really snug into the phone jack, and any movement of the phone would disconnect it for a split second.

Since I've got Carsifi, that problem has been eliminated.

For what it's worth, once you set your route in Android Auto/Apple Carplay, the directions will be displayed in one of the menus on the driver's dash

The disconnects are normally due to a loose connection between the phone and the cable. Replacing the cable with a more flexible/shorter one or using a 90 degree adapter might help with that.
 
Mine was a 10:12 order and arrived in the UK in June - has a right hand knob.
But I've realised all other cars I have/had all have volume on the left so from muscle memory I keep tuning the radio when trying to change volume! Until I get used to using the steering wheel buttons that is. Rather the left knob

Does anyone else think there screen is angled the wrong way? I think mine is angled towards the passenger... it should be more towards the driver.

oh no, now I will have to check - a right knobber with a leftie screen, I'll probably won't be able to unsee it.
 
One thing I was going to ask about being a right/left knobber... Does this influence the layout of Apple Carplay? On the screen that's split with music/maps, the maps on my unit are on the right hand side, however in another vehicle that I've driven recently , the maps were on the left hand side and it seems weird at the minute.

(Left knobber, by the way)

I don't know about Carplay, but with Android Auto, there is a setting for this. You can specify whether the driving position is left, right, or determined by the vehicle. If there's a similar setting for Carplay then perhaps you can override it.

I had a quick look through the settings and couldn’t see anything but I’ll have another look tomorrow =]
 
Left knob and very obvious dimples on a Jan 23 delivery here. Our other car had it on the left, then an update moved it to the right. I am just genuinely glad this car actually has knobs, buttons, stalks and a dashboard to be honest. I think those features are going to be appreciated as much as the 3 pedals, NA engine and RWD going forward. Although the placement of the USB ports are still monumentally daft in my opinion.

100%, I test drive a Mk8 Golf Gti and at no point could I imagine living with everything being via the touchscreen, simple tasks seemed to be as hard as texting while driving. An ipad centre console might look great in the show room but they're a bugger to use when driving.
The 86 touchscreen stuff seems to be one off settings while the day to day usage are buttons and knobs.

I have muscle memory from the gt86 and feel at home. All so intuitive
Only gripe is still the challenging indicator stalk

Yeah, the indicators operate in almost the same way as my e92 BMW which I really like, BUT the BMW you can cancel them pushing up or down no matter which indicator is on, the 86 only cancels in the opposite direction which is just fiddly I think (and not helped with 9 years of muscle memory from the BMW!)

Agree 100%. (I've had a MINI for 10years)
Fingers crossed they improve this with a software update...

Slightly ironic isn't it, they encourage you not be become distracted whilst drive, fiddling with phones, sat navs and radios, yet find it perfectly acceptable to homologate a car where everything requires you to concentrate and take your eyes off the road touching a screen. This along with the diminishing size of indicators on new cars.
