The old advice still is valid, do a proper test drive and then do the numbers and see how that feels.I must admit that when I say in an Ionic 5N at Goodwood FoS on Thursday, I was very impressed with the driving position and the quality of the interior. It didn't seem very big at all in person and up close compared to seeing the normal one quite a bit near me. Turning around from the drivers seat to the back seats seemed like looking behind in a transit! I'm sure our two big dogs would love that.
I've a possible choice to make soon with an EV scheme from work (and selling the GR86) and I've been toying between this and the Renault R5ev / Alpine A290. The smaller EV make the sensible choice as a runabout / commuting car. The Ioniq 5N appeals as it's like a hot hatch of old as a jack of all trades. Sensible and comfy when you want and a nutter when you feel more fruity. The trouble is that we have a slightly modified Mk3 Focus RS for fun (which I'll never sell for personal reasons) and a BMW 3er derv touring for trips to Scotland and France to see family so this would be treading on both of their toes.
It all depends on the monthly costs I guess!
If you're asking my personal opinion trying to be in your shoes, if the mk3 RS is going to stay anyway, it won't hurt it if it got a bit less miles and you can still take it out if you want to. Having owned a quick BMW derv - yes you might arrive a bit sooner, but personally I'd much prefer 600hp effortless progress/overtakes and I've long before going EV learned to take breaks every 2 hours of driving anyway. Ok if you would do a regular long trip where you need to charge just to do a last 20min or so it's a bit inconvenient (10-60% takes like 10min), but I would still take the 5 N if I knew there was any chance of doing a fun road blast at the destination, which for me are often unplanned.
Daily driving a 5 N makes driving most others cars like an exercise in forced restraint so one can find new appreciation for one's own wheels... So unless that BMW is special in some way, or charging infrastructure is (f)actually terrible en route to your favourite destinations, I'd personally be prepared to sell it. But that's me....
