GR Yaris Handling upgrades

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look to get a camber of around 2 degrees at the front. I actually prefer a toe in up front and back on all of the cars that I've driven. I find that it improves stability and gives more instant steering response and turn in.

Do you happen to have the part number or link to the camber bolts please?
I use 90105-17013

You do you for toe, don't forget that all car do not react the same way to alignement settings :)

Toe in front make the steering response less instant and make the car more reluctant to turn. But yes it give stability.

For toe, if you have a relative aggressive camber, the wheel will have a natural tendency to roll towards the centre of the car. I find it best to set neutral toe then, mark it up and then adjust toe slightly (like 1/24th of a turn at a time, each side) based on how much steering feel you get with your specific set of tires and tire pressure. There is imho no single 'correct' toe, rather one literally dials it in based on your setup.

This is my single best trick to get the best steering feel, and also the main reasons why the same car model can get very different appreciations for steering feel, because they actually weren't the same between different samples of the same car model.

Thank you all for your help. The car is now booked in to get an alignment done next week.

Do you have the camber bolts for front camber ? Else you won't be able to change it.

I've spoken to the garage who are setting it up and they said that they have the bolts there so that the camber can be adjusted to 2 degrees. I think I'd be happy with 2 degrees front negative caster. If I feel like it's not enough, I'll look to change it at a later date.

As a quick and cheap upgrade have the Toyota camber bolts fitted and a fast road alignment from RRG Macclesfield. The touch of extra camber really improves the experience, tightens things up nearer the limit and it quells excessive understeer. I have this on my car which is a daily driver and it’s a no brainer.

Yea and despite what some doom sayers say, 2 to 2.5° of negative camber is totally fine on the road (My car had -2° rear stock ! ). It is far from enough to make the car unstable during braking, you would need at least 4° and even then I Don't think there would be as much of an impact.

Most important thing is tyre wear. But as stock, I was destroying the shoulders even on the road ! So the touch of camber is 100% necessary and actually my wear is perfect now.

I have -3° camber front, -2.5° rear and am dailying my otherwise stock car. And roads are pretty crappy around here. Still, I would never go back to stock. Best handling upgrade for me...
I am on PZ5 for 9000km now, my tire wear is 5.2-5.2-5.2-4.6 (outter --> inner) vs 6.3-6.7-6.7-6.3 (PZ5 new) so for me that is more than acceptable. Loving those tires BTW, in my opinion they outperform PS4s, EF1SS, CS7 in every handling aspect and now they seem to have a decent wear, too

My plan is to keep the rear camber standard unless there is a difference from both sides. I'm hoping that this is close to 2 degrees negative camber. I'm then going to fit either Powerflex or factory camber bolts to try and get the front to 2.5 degrees negative camber.
On the rear tyres I'm going to go for 1mm toe in each side and then go for 0.25mm toe in each side on the front tyres.
I'll see what this feels like on the road and then adjust from there if needed.

I'm going to stick to the Michelins until they wear out and then probably fit the Pirelli PZ5 when I change tyres.

That's the way to go. You should have between -1.9° and -2.0° rear camber (I had 1° 59' left and 2° 01' right). The toyota bolt I cited brought front camber to -2° 27' which is pretty nice. I recommend them.

I went for EF1SS since at the time I bought my tyre there were too few review on PZ5. You're making me regret my choice a bit ! One more reason to abuse my F1SS though :p

That's awesome news, I have had PZ5 on about a similar milage to you too. I agree, they are awesome! I am about to prep my car for winter starting this weekend so I will do some tyre wear measurements too before they go into storage for winter.

PZ5 has similar rotation to EF1SS but a lot more grip both dry and wet and even stiffer sidewalls. But F1SS had excellent heat management on track so there is a hint for You :giggle:
I haven't tracked the PZ5 yet, but with similar abuse both PS4s and CS7 has lost quite some meat on outter shoulders and the PZ5 still looks mint
CS7 has similar grip than PZ5 but while you lean on CS7 (much softer sidewalls) the PZ5 just takes the corner without any drama. I almost hit the INNER curb of a roundabout, with same entry speeds :ROFLMAO:, when I first tested the PZ5 after switching from CS7

BTW I am on Whiteline front and Powerflex rear camber bolts for the last ~70.000km, now at 89.000 alignment (esp. camber) is still spot on (>3000 track km and consumed ~ 6 sets of tyres during spirited driving )

I’m getting the alignment done tomorrow. One question, should the alignment be done with a full tank of fuel or doesn’t it make a difference?

Preferably with normal load, that usually is driver (weight on driver seat) and, on average, 2/3 of a tank?

Just come back from having my alignment done. The car feels nice to drive but it was good before getting it done.
There is a bit of difference in caster left to right, but this was non adjustable unless I get some caster bushes such as those from powerflex.
There person setting the car up said that I shouldn’t really feel a difference in Caster difference.
Is there a way of equalising caster without changing bushes? Is there much point in doing it?

That's a lot of toe in. The car must feel lazy :(
