GR86 GR86 - What wheels and tyres are you thinking about?

Just to add and really highlight how much I am a newbie when it comes to changing the wheels on a car.

I ended up going for the 17x8 ET48, will I be OK using the stock bolts or should I be getting something aftermarket?

Thanks and apologies for the stupid question, I know I've brought shame on you all :D

They’ll be nuts instead of bolts.

As long as the OE nuts have a 60degree taper like aftermarket wheels require, then you’ll be fine using the originals.

Whether they have the look you want, is a different matter!

Thanks for the prompt reply! Should I just buy some aftermarket ones to play it safe? It wasn't done out of being tight, I just didn't think of it until after I ordered them. :D

What wheels have you gone for bud?

If the factory ones are the standard chrome finish ones you have, then I probably would change to aftermarket to suit your wheel choice.

You’re absolutely spoiled for choice with whatever look you want to go for and your budget, if you want something from Project Kics / KYO-EI / TWS I can help. Rays, Enkei, Muteki also do some decent stuff.

I would just steer clear of no-name EBay or Tegiwa stuff.

I went for Enkei NT03RR's in Hyper Silver.

How do you tell which ones are going to stick out loads compared to the ones that sit like OEM ones? I'm glad this part of the internet (owners forums) has managed to stand the test of time and not die like most things have as well online.

This may help

I love NT03RR! I really wanted some for my DC2 years ago.

Yeah forums are so useful, but Facebook groups killed a lot of them off. I much prefer a forum.

I’ll take some pictures later on showing you the different kinds of nuts so you can get a feel for what the different types look like, sizes etc, if you want to keep them more OE sized.

Cheers that's really appreciated.

I know what you mean about the Facebook groups, they don't really give as much back as a forum as they always just end up with people arguing.

On many aftermarket wheels you need slim nuts (20mm dia) to be able to fit.

Annoyingly the Rays ones I just got don’t fit my aftermarket wheels by provably about 0.1mm but I’m going to use them on my OEM wheels over winter I think

I pulled out a few, all M12. Here you can get a feel for some of the different styles and sizes available. The Leggdura on the right hand side is closest to OEM size.

I'm in real state of indecision at the moment.

After months of faffing and looking at different wheel options i finally ordered some wheels and coilovers on monday, but my credit card refused the purchase thinking it was fraud. I've got that sorted but now i've gone back to indecision again. hoping for a little guidance.

I'll be fitting KW V1 with only a very moddest drop. maybe an inch or so, with pedders and camber bolts at the front

My first choice is for 17x9 +35 RPF1 in SBC
I REALLY like the finish on these but they are only available in +35
Tyre options
235/45/17 - slight stretch will help with fitment and should give the steering a bit more "directness" to offset the higher sidewall.
245/40/17 - I'm not sure these will fit properly at the rear without clreaence issues with the aero tab part

My second choice is 17x9 RPF1 +45 in silver
Again i realy like the wheels and i'm sure the silver will look great. just not as nice as the SBC
245/40/17 on these as i don't need to worry about clearance.
I can always add a spacer on the front if i want to push them out a little.

I've looked at pretty much every photo of fitment available across the web and on facebook groups, but I'm still not sure about clearance on the rears. lots of people say its fine on their cars. others say the rear will need additional camber from control arms - which i'm not against fitting in the future, but want the allignment to be functional for fast road driving.

I can't decide between going for the finish i really want, but with a slightly riskier offset, or the slightly less cool silver finish (also cheaper) but in an offset that will be less risky in terms of clearance. HELP! I want to place my order o_O

17x9 +35 RPF1 in SBC: this will likely rub on the outside, you will need to add negative camber. Best bet is to run with 235
17x9 RPF1 +45 in silver : you will need a small spacer (maybe 4mm) at the front

Thanks. I think I've made up my mind. I'll be sure to post pics when it's all done.

I agree with both.

I have 18x9 +45 and have very slight rubbing in the front with -3 degree camber (with 225s), I will fit a spacer. No rubbing in the rear.
I thin +35 would definitely cause the rear to poke out too much and rub, even with -2 degrees camber that I run.

Interesting that you get rubbing - I have 8.5 ET38 which is within 1mm of "poke" of a 9 inch ET45 and no rubbing so far with 225 tyres and 2.25 degrees of negative camber.
