GR86 GR86 - The “I’m thinking of cancelling / did cancel my order” thread

Where did you test drive? I went to Stockport and it was accompanied traffic, useless really I asked for another unaccompanied and they couldn’t accommodate
Lindop Bros in Queensferry

I went to the Stockport branch when I was over there recently and they had a white demo car that was sold.. Couldn't even sit in it let alone drive it. That was before the 2nd batch was common knowledge.. I went to ask about putting my name down but they were clueless... Dissed the car a little too telling me that it's nothing special...

So users selling by Motorway have had a good experience? I have worries doing it that way though. As far as I can see they collect your car before payment, correct? I'd be pretty worried to see someone driving away in my car after giving them the keys and docs not having received the payment. Or am I getting that all wrong?

I can't speak for Motorway but the CarWow dealer who took my Yaris and who told me also use Motorway (I guess they're on all the platforms) paid a £100 deposit and then the balance on the day when they collected. I only updated ownership online once the final funds cleared in my account (took about 30 seconds for the money to arrive!).

The process for me was okay except they didn't turn up on the original date they were meant to collect and didn't let me know (I had to call and chase a couple of times). I kept driving the car for another week though and they didn't bat an eyelid when it had a few more miles on it when they eventually collected.

I think your experience will probably vary a bit depending on which dealer buys your car. However the above issue aside, the one I got was pretty good and I noted had basically all 5 star reviews on google

It's not something that I really like to think about but, should I have the misfortune to get a "good news (it's here), bad news (it's damaged)" phone call from the dealership I've already prepared my Plan B if I have to reject the car - It might cost me an extra 10k but I'll be looking at a bloody big snarly V8.

I was dubious about using Motorway, but they were “offering” £4k (~20%) more than px or WBAC, so took the plunge and went with them. Phone call to discuss and agree a reserve price for the car, which I was quite happy with, they sent me a link to use to upload a bunch of photos from my phone and provide details for any defects/dents/scratches etc. Car then put in auction the next day and at 3pm they confirmed it had sold for the reserve price.
Dealer contacted me the next day to arrange collection, which was the following week as they had other pickups to do. The guy collecting the car phoned me a couple of times to discuss details of car, best way to get to where I live and meeting time. He turned up at agreed time, had a look round the car, didn’t want to take it for a test drive, phoned his boss to confirm car as described and got him to transfer the funds there and then. We then had a bit of a chat about cars for the few minutes it took for me to see the money arrive in my account, handed over the keys and he drove off happy. It was much better and easier than I expected. With all the reports about WBAC knocking the offered price down for any little thing, I was expecting to have to do some haggling and negotiating, which is something I hate, so it was a very pleasant surprise not to have to go though that. I’d certainly use Motorway again.

I've used motorway in the past and it was really simple, straightforward and got paid before I handed the keys over

Black and Silver seem to be available again after clicking on the complete order link. Haven't confirmed my order yet as I am still on the fence after my test drive. Great looking car (looks better in person) and its nice to be back in a manual again. Got until 28th to complete so am going to have to think about it some more. Is it possible to switch dealers for pick-up? Just thought of another Toyota dealer that has also got a BMW dealership and thought it would be better for my part-ex deal if I collected from them.

I believe you can choose any Toyota dealer as your handover centre. I actually changed my first choice to another which was a GR centre.

They check over the car and give you your keys back they are not allowed to leave until payment hits your account. I got a text message with a link to confirm my bank account details and it was paid immediately. I could even see him taking photos of additional small scratches I hadn't mentioned (happened to be the brightest possible sun to show it after a week of rain) but there was no knocking down of the value. He didn't even test drive it either.

I made the sensible decision to keep my options open, paid my second deposit yesterday and now have another test drive on Wednesday when I'm hoping for a much better experience.
Hope the test drive goes well Ken.

I'm sure you're already well aware of this, but it is worth bearing mind that the GR86 does take a bit of time to appreciate. It doesn't reveal all its appeal on brief test drives.
