GR86 GR86 - The “I’m thinking of cancelling / did cancel my order” thread

Why would this be a concern though as any issues with this will be covered by the warranty? Also wasn't there similar issues with the first generations of the GT86? I didn't have any issues with either of my GT86's other than a battery issue on the 2012 model I bought.
With the reports of engine failures (and some either not being repaired under warranty initially or at all) I can understand why it might turn people off wanting to buy them. It's an overblown issue, but if a prospective buyer bought into how "widespread" the issue was then they may want to go for a different car. Especially if they were buying them with a view to track them at any point. I don't believe that the RTV blockages are causing the problems, but it's a pretty high profile problem when you look for information online about the car.

I think the only possible chance of having a warranty issue is if you're tracking it a fair bit, and it you're doing that, you should probably do a bit of work (like an oil cooler) anyway.
There's a good chance that a reasonable number of the "I've never tracked it, it just did that and now they won't repair it" crowd have either a) tracked it, b) money shifted, or c) been abusing it in other ways and they're trying to drum up support to get Toyota/Subaru to cover it. If you take it at face value it might turn people away though. It's not that much of a stretch that people might see all of the articles and videos about it and decide that it's not worth it.

Sure.

It's odd, because I've watched almost every YT video on the 86, and I read posts here, but I barely see anything about the RTV issue (I know what it is, I'm just not looking for info on it).

Just a quick question here on ordering and part exchange. Just received the complete the order process but it wouldn't give me an online valuation of my current car and told me to contact the dealer where I'm picking it up. I'm going to do this when I go for a test drive. But I just wanted to ask whether dealers would normally buy a car that has a higher or similar value than the car that I would be buying. I think the current part ex valuation of my current car is around £33k-£34k. Never bought a car that would be lower value than my current car so was just curious. I'm not to keen on having the hassle to sell privately.

I’m sure it’ll depend on the individual dealer, but I’ve done it a couple of times before without hassle. They should just be able to do a bank transfer or even give you a cheque for the difference. It’ll help if it’s a Toyota, or if not, that the dealer is part of a group of other dealers that sell that brand of car.

I highly recommend Motorway for shifting your car. They offered £1,200 more than Toyota's part ex valuation and £800 more than the closest one I got. Sold in 24 hours and collected a week and a half later.

I would also recommend them my brother got a great deal from a dealer 300miles away who collected the car a few days later, no issues at all as far as I know.

Agree with comments ref Motorway above. I did my part ex sale through Carwow (very similar concept) and it allows you to set a reserve price so no worries on not getting what it’s worth. Dealers bid on the car and the highest one (over reserve) buys. Whole thing only took a few days and it was £1.5k over what Toyota offered and £1.6k over we buy any car.
My only issue is I pulled the trigger too soon so now I’m waiting for my new GR which is in Derby still :-( and I’ve got to cycle everywhere lol.

If you stick with Toyota then even if part ex worth more than new they would just pay you the difference to your account.

My Toyota PX valuation was £7,787 lower than Arnold Clark and over £6k lower than WBAC! I too 'went a bit early' and have been without a car for two months, which is likely to be nearer 6 months by the time my GR86 turns up. Money in the pocket though eh?!

Did you just walk into Arnold Clark and ask for a valuation or do they have an online portal? I’m too lazy to look

I used their online valuation. Then it was just a matter of visiting the dealer (less than a mile away) who inspected the car, verified it was in the condition stated and confirmed that they would honour the valuation. Same process as WBAC.

Did they try to knock anything off at handover, I've found WBAC normally take off 10% of the quoted figure compared to their online quote each time I've used them?

Do they all use paint depth gauges and knock you down if not all factory depth? (Heard WBAC do)

Thanks... Just tried it and the valuation is very low... I'm getting similar values everywhere so I assume it's because of the impending new registrations...

I'll try again in September before I advertise it... I can't believe for one minute what we're looking at an ~£8k loss in just over 3 years on a car we paid £26k for
