I’m sure Toyota would love to supply 4,000 cars to the uk if they could, but a little thing called covid and the resulting semiconductor shortage has put a stop to that. Nothing to do with Toyota.
 
I think most people who ordered the car will be happy with demo cars being available, most people who didn't get a chance to order one before it sold out, or were waiting to test drive one before considering a purchase will obviously not be pleased.

However, in reality this car is a low volume production sports car in a very undersupplied market, so it was to be expected that it will sell out quickly, considering that ones in a "household appliance" category are on 6+ months long backlogs already.

In the States (who don't face the same regulatory challenges with having to sell the cars before 2024) the cars are available to purchase from dealers right now - at a 20-35% mark up. I'm not sure if that's any better to be honest, as most seriously interested parties got to order the car at a fair price in the UK.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if some, if not all, of the demo cars become available for purchase some time next year, however I would also expect the prices to reflect the current inflationary challenges and high demand. Let's not forget the total number of those is likely to be tiny to, only GR dealers with confirmed GR86 orders are said to be getting one.

Honestly I only briefly saw it for like a second, plus it was in the middle of a transporter so hard to get a good look. I just clocked the front end as I was driving past.

The USA seem to get all the good cars. The new Nissan Z not coming here either. Also massively overpriced here as well. The GR86 is a bargain yes but I've always thought the Supra 2.0 litre should be around £39k, in the USA its $46k which converts to about £35K here. Its £47k here and thats over 30% increase over the States. Why its that much I'll never know. If it had been around £40k I'd have probably considered it.

True but they get the GR Corolla which is probably better. Although having said the States get the better cars, also can be said for Australia as well.

I had a call from my dealer, if anyone is close to the West Midlands area, on the 29th May there is an MR2 event at Hatton Park near Warwick, Toyota are bringing a GR86, most likely the German reg red car seen in autocar's fun car of the year award. Unlikely to be able to drive it, but the event is free, I'll certainly be there to have a look!

TGB will be taking a new UK reg vehicle, no test drives as it will be on display but definitely worth the trip, its a great event
