Good point, may well have done. I honestly didn’t want it quite so soon. I was in the process of buying a Jaguar I-Pace when it came through. I can only borrow so much money to burn on cars
We were never in a rush and the longer it took the more we could save up anyway so wasn't too bad having to wait in the end. Definitely helped that the car my wife part ex'd only lost £800 in 3 years of ownership! Toyota's welcome call said we were one of the last orders and likely to be Q1 2024 so it still came earlier than expected. I did start to get very triggered that brand new orders were getting their cars before us!

2018 BMW 118i. Bought in July 2020 for £14,599 at 23k miles and just sold at £13,731 at 36k miles. Like for like spec at 18 months old is now about £23k. Shows how much used cars have gone up in that period. Got lucky it was just before the chip shortage took hold and back when cars depreciated like rocks.

Maybe a missed an email somewhere but fairly sure that I registered my continued interest. In February 2022 I ordered a new Yaris as an interim which was delivered January 23 (5 months late). Had settled to the fact that I might be driving the Yaris for a while. Just pleased that my name came up, but had not realised that perhaps some people had registered their interest fairly late in the game. It did seem the same when I placed an order for a new Yaris which took 11 months delivery, whereas some people were receiving their cars in just a few months. It does seem that Toyota allocate cancelled orders to those recently expressing an interest, rather than going down the queue to those that had been waiting a long time. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, but hope that those that have a genuine interest in the GR86 get a chance to own one and do not have to pay the over inflated price of the second-hand market.
Great news, mine is also Magnetite Grey and showing in transit Derbyshire, so I guess not long now.
That's the opposite of what they say they're doing though. Instead of a database with customer details and dates of when they registered, I can picture customer emails printed one per page, a panicking temp, and a very strong fan.
