GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

When I asked about warranty cover for track use they came back quickly with a "No" but not had cause to email since. May do once it's on a boat as I have a part ex to value.

Tried that, back in June-

Gentleman

Imagine my excitement at 10:40 on April 20th when my order was confirmed.

And then absolutely nothing from Toyota UK about progressing of order.

I understand-
That is was a sell out.
That you system and small team are struggling.
That the sales demand was too much for you to cope with.
That the world has supple chain issues.

However, its extremely disappointing that Toyota UK have, as yet, not made it clear to many of the people that have ordered this car when orders will be moved forward.

The only Toyota advice has been a glib email from the marketing team saying wait up to 12 week before Toyota action orders. I’ve talked and mailed customer service, who basically seem to be under orders to not divulge any information.

Lets put this in your (metaphorical) laps.

How would you feel 9 weeks in from order placement, that nothing of note has been communicated back to the customer base?
Its slap dash, shoddy and is starting to ruin the joy of buying a (hopefully) wonderful new car.

I get an ‘under the skin’ feeling that something has gone on between Toyota UK and Toyota Japan, it is obvious that your marketing suggestion of cars being in owner hands in July is farcical. Maybe selling 400 cars in 90 minutes, £12m odd bent the system.

I note that Robin Giles is director of customer service, and doesn’t appear bothered about hanging out 400+ customers, when all we want is information on progress and anticipated delivery.

I note that Stuart Sanders is director of communications and product, but doesn’t seem to like to communicate.

We all have things that need to be organised prior to the cars arriving. Simple stuff like arranging the payment, and selling the existing car.

Overall I am extremely disappointed that Toyota are failing its GR86 customers by not communicating on a regular frequency, and by not being transparent with the process from deposit onward. I am not alone, the web (car forums) are full of bemused deposit paid, GR86 customers.

Could I suggest you have a product meeting and engage more with your GR86 customer order base.

Its not an issue that cars may not arrive until winter 22, it is an issue that after 9 weeks you still haven’t got your act together to clarify the order timing with each individual.

Plain and simple, you appear to have shown little efforts, and have foregone the professional service and courtesy a customer would expect, when spending over £30k on one of your products.

If the problem is that Toyota Japan have stalled the UK production slots, say so. Just be transparent and honest. Clarity is key.

Makes me feel a little guilty getting excited about mine now. I was lucky enough to get the welcome call within a couple of weeks of ordering, so I was kind of happy to just sit and twiddle my thumbs and wait. But I do sympathise with people who have put down a deposit and heard literally nothing except the automated mailshots.

My trade in value with Toyota has dropped over a £1000 since my orignal £1000 deposit with the dealer. And right now have my car in the garage for follow up repairs after failing its MOT. Wish i could have give them the keys back then.

Just hanging on for the day its all worth it.

Fair play @Chris Mc , that’s a decent list of Toyota U.K. Smart Suits, but the guy who is ultimately accountable is the No1 Smart Suit

I‘m pretty sure the “ignore it and it will go away“ strategy works 9 times out of 10. I’d try forwarding your original email to Toyota U.K. No1 suit, and politely ask if he’d mind responding as the lower numbered suits couldn’t be bothered 🤔 if it doesn’t work I’ll buy you a beer 🍺👍

Quick update from me - my car arrived in Derby over a month ago. I sent an email to Toyota Onlione - and they were surpriused by the fact it was in the UK.

Apparently, Derby is the landing point for all Toyota cars. Here, they do final pre-delivery checks before final transport to the nominated dealer. Toyota Online said they were shipping out the EU sales first, and UK cars would follow on after. They could not give an exact ETA as "we have delayed delivery of GR86 cars pending finalising the vehicles' introduction to the European markets". The rough ETA given was "late october".

I'm wondering if the delay has anything to do with the over-zealous use of silicon sealent which started blocking the oil uptake, causing oil starvation and engines going boom?

I'm pretty sure the ship my car was on stopped at at least one port before Portbury. Maybe the captain just wanted some milk and ciggies. Toyota UK are surprised because all the cars at Derby are left hand drive 😮

This is wonderful, I was attempting to take the same approach however I couldn't get hold of their email addresses.

No new information but at least I have had a reply to the email I sent last month after emailing Mr Giles and Mr Sanders last night...

"I have been asked by Robin Giles, Director, Customer Services, and Stuart Sanders, Director Communications and Product to thank you for your email dated 15 August 2022 and to respond on his behalf.

We'd like to thank you for ordering a GR86 and apologise for the frustration and dissatisfaction caused by your experience.

I should like to assure you we aim to respond to all customer contacts in a timely manner and I very much regret we've fallen short of our usual high standards on this occasion. As you have said, we want buying a new Toyota to be an exciting and trouble free experience for our customers and I am sorry your experience has damaged your faith in Toyota.

We have been advised the specific environment and usage in Europe means the vehicles are subject to a change to accommodate to these conditions. I understand this is not the detail you have requested and apologise for the additional dissatisfaction this will cause.

We very much regret this change requirement has adversely affected the delivery of your GR86. The current estimated resolution is expected around the end of September and we would hope to provide you with a further update at that time."

My ETA in DevTools was 13th October last time I checked but it looks like any delivery dates will be dependent on the "resolution" happening at the end of September.

I really don't know what to do, I'm sure the car will be great but I've had enough of Toyota GB. Do I stick it out and hope the ownership experience is better than the purchasing experience (which won't be hard), do I keep my current car which is 5 years old but still fun or do I head off to Autotrader and see what else there is for £30k?

Should we not be told what ours cars changes will be? Certainly we bought A but are receiving A*

"specific environment and usage in Europe" isn't anything to due with our environment it will be legislation. 😬

This is what I'd like to know. If it's something minor I won't notice, then fine. But if they are doing something which might affect power output significantly then I'd like to know.

I really hope is isn't that, because that would be an incredible oversight, but it's in the back of my mind that it can't be something trivial or they could just tell us.

Who knows? Be nice if yhey can just say it, as we just think about stuff like gpf's, speed limiters, or parking sensors and a duck tail spoiler. 🙂
