GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Does sound like it's the GPF
I really hope not. GPF's have ruined the sound of so many cars now and the boxer engines don't sound the best as it is! One more step towards making petrol boring and the swtich to electric seem like a no brainer once all the sound is taken out the equation too.

Perhaps they’re simply waiting for stock of spares and TRD goodies to arrive, so when people want their optional side skirts/front lip/duckbill spoiler or simply need to service it Toyota have the necessary parts?

To be fair, the GR86 doesn't exactly make any noise anyway.

Toyota would have known well in advance whether the car needed a GPF to fit EU/UK regulations, the manual even states about a GPF so I really doubt it will be to do with this. I assume we're getting one from factory.

I'd love to say that when the first few land, we'll be able to find out the differences and make decisions then but at this rate, it looks like there will be a mass release and quite a few owners will be getting them in the same week or so.

That's true actually. I was looking through the manual the other day as it happens (like a nerd) and there's a section about the GPF and what to do if the warning light comes on. You'd really hope that a company like Toyota wouldn't just "forget" to fit them :D

Maybe they forgot to underseal them? They sent us some Australian spec ones by mistake 😯

That would be due to European environmental conditions.

So with a lot of ”us” (A) and the 5/6 degrees of separation thing , someone must be connected to a random Him/Her/They (B) in Derby tasked with making whatever changes to the GR86s sat there collecting bird poop 💩 are required to make them saleable. As folk around Derby are (or at least used to be) partial to Marstons Pedigree 🍺 we can crowd fund some 🍺 money for someone to take Him/Her/They down the local and after a few 🍺🍺🍺 get the full story on what’s going on and report back 🤔

I’ve been trying to get the info out of someone at Derby but getting nowhere. He doesn’t work in the section dealing with the GR86, but has said it’s quite normal for different models to sit there awaiting parts from Japan to be fitted after build.

...

I really don't know what to do, I'm sure the car will be great but I've had enough of Toyota GB. Do I stick it out and hope the ownership experience is better than the purchasing experience (which won't be hard), do I keep my current car which is 5 years old but still fun or do I head off to Autotrader and see what else there is for £30k?

I tell you:
In October it will be October.
You can have an October with a GR86 or an October without one. The same applies for any month after October.

The anger will not go away, if you cancel the order.
In October you can have a great car and fading anger or a worse car and more anger...

My anger about my GR86 has completely gone since picking up my New car. That’s not to rub it in, just the truth.

I certainly don’t consider my car a worse car either… 😅

I still feel mightily p###ed off for the rest of you. For those of you that still haven’t had a call it would be nice if Toyota even just recognised that the customer service has been atrocious in this case and offered you all a full tank of fuel when you picked them up. Some kind of small gesture, with some honest information, I think would go along way.

To sell a car for enthusiasts, hold them and then expect enthusiasts to not ask questions about why it’s on hold begs belief.

But I digress. Maybe someone should start a Facebook group to storm Toyota in Derby like they threatened to do with Area 51 before 😂😂😂

Well done @volksdub sounds like you are working on this matter, it looks as though you may already be at step 4/5 how many pints 🍺 of Marstons Pedigree did you apply 🤔 If you need more 🍺 money we can start a “Go Fund Me“ page 👍😉

Ok, if you have a Supra, it may be fine ;)

I think my experience will be the following:
  • enter the dealership 5 min before appointment
  • wait 30 min
  • make papers within one hour
  • go to the car, inspect it
  • dealer says "i know, you know more about it than me, so i won't tell you anything"
  • leave the dealership with my new car (get my worthless ass kicked out)

Based on empirical studies (its my 5th Toyota).
If i would not like their cars so much, i would never ever go with Toyota.

At least here, they don't have a sense for car fans. They just sell an everyday object.
Customer experience is always bad.

When i ordered my GT86, i had to sit over one hour in a hot room (more then 30°C) in the sun, waiting to give them my 30000€.

Once I reminded myself of that, lowered my expectations back down to where I normally have them when buying used cars I suddenly felt much better about the situation.

It's the car I want, not a relationship with Toyota, roll on October!

A good take, I think. It's easy to sit around and simmer about not having a car. But I think most of the anger will largely be forgotten the moment you get handed the keys.

I am trying to forget about the car and just focus on work, so that before I know it, it's October and the car will be delivered.
Unfortunately, I am failing in that regard, and am instead spending far too much time speculating on this forum, and looking at GR86 content on YouTube/IG in anticipation, and so October still feels like a million years away :D

100% the same here.

Thinking aboput stuff, i would never have thougth about:

  • Like how to get a snorkel and shorten it,? Shoudl i do it or not?
  • What exhaust?
  • I want red stitching not the white one.
  • I want alu pedals.
  • I don't like the door sills
  • will i miss my GT86?
  • one guy said the steering feeling is not as good as Gen1
  • ...

No new information but at least I have had a reply to the email I sent last month after emailing Mr Giles and Mr Sanders last night...

"...We have been advised the specific environment and usage in Europe means the vehicles are subject to a change to accommodate to these conditions. I understand this is not the detail you have requested and apologise for the additional dissatisfaction this will cause. ..."

It's not as though Toyota have ever sold any cars in the UK or Europe to know at the design / assembly stage how to make them comply is it?

My Dealer Rang me Today - the last time we spoke, was at the end Of June. He is really sound guy but they are clueless - every time he calls me, I gave him updates regarding my order:ROFLMAO:

So yeah, we laughed today again at Toyota UK Coms, and I said I will update him somewhere around October next time - given Toyota UK decides to speak and cars are ready.

So...if you are getting the updates before your dealer, does that mean you're going to get told at some point "Congratulations! Your car is ready to be picked up!", you're going to go to your dealer...and he is just going to stare at you blankly? :D
