GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Toyota build hundreds of thousands of cars for the U.K./European markets this problem won’t be some simple oversight of a regulation it will be fundamental manufacturing faults with components that are sub standard. A bit like the wheels that can fall off the new electric Toyota. During the industry crisis they will have been sourcing components from new suppliers and I guess some stuff is just not up to specification. It’s a worry buying any new car at present just how good are some of the parts.
The only problem with suggesting that the European release has been postponed due to a serious issue affecting the GR86 is that they are still being sold and delivered in the US and Japan, which are far larger markets than the EU/UK for this car.

Considering that production of the cars hasn't stopped and they are still delivered, I think it is something to do with emissions or other EU regulations, possibly involving the GPF if rumours are to be believed.

To keep this on topic, my car is still showing as Build In Progress since its changed the status to that a week ago.

There is also the rumor, that someone crashed a showcar because of a VSC problem.
If true it has to be approved by authorities and my explain, why this needs so long.

On the other hand, if there was such a big problem, they would stop selling the car in the US, because people there would sue their a**es.

Another rumor is, that the emergency call for europe did not work.
For me this is the most plausible explanation.
A subaru related guy in the german forum said, that toyota did order the "wrong spec" from the factory.

As you all know ;) the telefone nets in USA and Europe use different frequencies, so you cant use a Europe phone in the US and vise versa.
So it MAY be, that needed to rebuild the emergency call unit with Europe SIM cards and of course needed a software update.
Approving that by authorities may also need some time.

So this my theory (put on your tin foil hats!):

- someone crashed a showcar
- the emergency call did not call as expected
- they realised, that the installed the wrong components
-> very embarrasing ;)

They are also still selling them in USA with the so called oil pan issue. !!

Toyota don’t appear to be on a good run at the moment, the bZ4X wheels falling off is a major disaster and embarrassment for them 🤢 other models have minor issues the CEOs C-HR had two software recalls , one for rear seat belts and one for the front radar, I’m sure there are more. 🤷‍♂️

Have emailed Toyota and will let you know if I get a considered response to my complaint. I did point out that there were potentially 200 customers on this forum who were equally unhappy. I think everyone should just ping an email straight to [email protected] and the staff at Toyota Online will be very happy to pass it up the chain of command.

I sent an email to that address over three weeks ago. I'm still waiting for a response. I think we're wasting our time emailing the online team, when they do bother replying it's generic waffle. And how do we know complaints will be passed up the line?

Toyota GB's corporate emails seem to follow a standard format and their management team details are at https://media.toyota.co.uk/corporate-team/ , perhaps an email to the Director of Customer Services with a copy to the President/MD would be more effective? I see they have a Director of Communications too :ROFLMAO:

You may well be right that we're wasting our time. If so, then it's an exceedingly poor show.

Might well give your suggestion of emailing the corporate team a try. Clearly Toyota have something to hide. Presumably they feel they have enough embarrassment with the wheels literally falling off their first electric care that they are trying to hide another failure of similar proportions. What's their email format - first [email protected]?
