GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

Inflation aside, what is there to suggest the second batch will see a large price hike? £5k extra a car isn’t going to make much difference to Toyota is it!

Like others, I got my email asking if I was still interested in buying one. And I absolutely am, if they arrive.

Anybody know of any dealerships in the North West who have a demo?

vantage Preston and Harry Feeney blackpool both had demo cars - depends where you are and how far you want to travel.

Nothing so far that I've seen, only that they did the same thing with the GR Yaris... Which you couldn't even order at that point.

£5k x 300, doesn’t mean much to Toyota. Behave..
 
I didn’t say it wouldn’t mean much, but that it wouldn’t make much difference to them. Probably less than 0.5% of turnover in the UK, let alone globally.

Tbf, 400x £31k isn't even really that much in the grand scheme of things.

I fully expect batch 2 will cost more, in fact it will, as the first year VED has increased on some of the orders now, not to mention PCP deals of 5% are a distant memory too.

The whole point of an enthusiasts car is to drive it and enjoy it and for this to put a smile on your face. The extra allocation will give ownership opportunity to the individuals who have been languishing on the waiting list for over 12 months!

The GR86 is a car for enthusiasts to enjoy, larger numbers can only be a good thing.

Sod resale values!

What are your plans now? Are you on the waiting list, or just looking to pick one up when prices drop?
 
Something about a message of “when’s it’s gone, it’s gone” and “entire allocation” then suddenly creating an extra allocation doesn’t sit right with me.

I waited eleven months for this car, some of which I was car less. Didn’t want to cancel as I wouldn’t have another chance.

If they were upfront with another allocation I would have jumped on the second one and got a nice stop gap in between for a couple of years.

Yes it was a frustrating buying process, beset with delays and poor communication. But the car is f***ing brilliant. If you decide to just to flip the car out of principle, surely all it means is that you went through it all for nothing? It's the very essence of cutting your nose off to spite your face, especially after selling the already brilliant GR Yaris.

And as said earlier, if your main concern is resale value, then I wouldn't worry. Even if we got the same allocation again (which I reckon is unlikely) you're still going to be driving a very rare car. Put it this way, I think they sold something like 7000 of the first gen here in the UK, and in 10 years, Ive only seen a handful on the roads.

Last year when we were all cursing Toyota for their atrocious sale process, I remember saying that I thought it would all be forgotten the moment the car turned up, and I was right. The end product is fantastic and well worth the wait. I really wouldn't let annoyances over Toyotas behaviour or speculation about resale value assuage you from keeping it. I've been without mine for 7 weeks now, and I am champing at the bit to get it back.

But surely they were upfront, at the time?
As far as Toyota UK knew, they were getting 400 cars and that's that. Now they might be able to get more, and they're letting people know.

I get that it's annoying if you've had to accelerate your own plans to order one quicker than you'd like, but look at it this way...if they hadn't said "when it's gone, it's gone", and we'd all assumed they'd be readily available in their thousands and held off, then lots of us would have missed out. And if the news about further allocations turns out to be wrong, then I'd have been more pissed that Toyota hadn't warned us from the beginning. So swings and roundabouts.

Unless you're suggesting that they knew all along that there would be more cars coming. But that seems unlikely to me. Small allocations for the 86 seem to be a common factor across Europe.
 
Ive only got a couple of weeks left and I'll get to experience driving my first brand new car out of a showroom and then the drive home so who knows how I'll feel after that.
I deep down hope I fall in love with it 🙏
 
Just watched FastR video saying the GRY is the best affordable sports car in the last 20 years leaving those big expensive cars in its dust on a B road. The GR86 will also be talked about in similar ways and I wish I could have one at the side of my GRY. Everyone sings its praises as a pure drivers car.
I don't give a toss how many are on the road and what it is now worth as I hardly ever see them and spend ages explaining to people what it is.
521Williams, you need to sit down and make your mind up what you do actually want from your car or you will endlessly be confused and looking at other cars. If the GRY wasn't for you then the GR86 may not be. It will be a shame if you move on then regret it in a few years time. Hope you clarify things soon. Keep it or let someone else love it.
 
Car manufacturers change production numbers, that's their right. Ask someone who ordered an F40 new or Clio Williams 1 if it spoilt their enjoyment factor or affected values! I bet my house it they wouldn't care less and neither should we.

If the car isn't for you that's fine too but people being upset about others being able to enjoy such a wonderful car doesn't feel right to me. Life is far too short to worry about having some form of bragging rights over exclusivity, I'd rather get on with life, enjoy driving it and high five anyone else who also bought one.

I'm not on the waiting list and GR86 ownership will now have to wait for the moment 😔

Our new build (bungalow) is now in full swing, so my money is being spent on timber frames, windows, glazed sliding doors and brazilian slate presently.

I do have my F Type V6 which is a keeper to console me!

The GR86 would be a second car for me and I will start looking once the new build is complete and we have our present home up for sale 😄

I hope it all goes to plan and know the feeling. Cars certainly took a bit of a back seat for me in my last house which ended up costing far too much money to restore / modernise than we originally thought and ate up my new car fund at the time. 🙄
