GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

Having had a ride in a friend's Mk2 Golf 1.8 20v turbo and the fact I've been a year without a car now I am contemplating going down this route (Old school hot hatch/engine conversion).
I have wasted a year of my life without my only true passion/hobby! And after a health scare close to home over the weekend it's opened my eyes to how short life is.
Is it acceptable to advertise in the for sale section before having received the car? Car is due in UK early next month...

That’s like running a marathon and giving up 100m before the finish.

Why not run it for the summer, sell in the Autumn and (likely) still get 10% over list, win, win. Another notch for your car ownership notching post.

As for selling pre delivery, technically you can’t sell something you don’t own. It would have to be a gentleman's agreement, and would a potential buyer offer a deposit on something you don’t (yet) have?

Yepp that's exactly how I feel aswell 😂 I'm only 50% sure on this..
I have started looking elsewhere now as I'm much happier with something I can tinker with.. I was just wondering how people go about pre selling their car incase something else pops up in the mean time. I'm sure I saw an advert a while back pre selling but can't seem to find it now..
If nothing pops up I will be keeping the GR and hopefully fall in love with it!
A new car was a itch that needed scratching but my days has it been an experience!

I'd hold out if you can, at least try to live with it first - for me the GR86 gives me the old car driving experience, with a new car 10 year warranty!

I'm wondering whether I might be able to get another test drive at my local dealer? Maybe I need to reignite the flame for this car! The old more raw experience is what I want..

Think we’re in the same boat @521williams (mindset and quite possibly literally) and I’ve got my 2nd ‘ok GR prove it to me’ test drive booked in for tomorrow…

I'll report back if he can squeeze me in 👍

How did you get on?
I managed to get out for a test drive this morning. Was told to take as long as I want and directed on some nice back roads to actually get a good feel for the car.
It's blown me away again if I'm honest! Although not as quick as some of the cars I've had it's quick enough and the handling is on another level, so sharp and precise. The overall feel of the car just feels good and special.
I will be putting an exhaust on it though...

That's probably a good summary for me after 1000 miles of ownership as well (y)

Good to hear 👌
I'm already sat on YouTube watching exhaust videos... 😂🙈
Great to hear you enjoyed your test drive, head over to the exhausts thread https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/exhausts.1335/ there is some good info there, its worth pointing out a lot of the videos on the tube are on US cars, which are slightly louder since they don't have a GPF in the front pipe.

I will have a good read through that this evening 👍
And that's good to know, I wasn't aware of that! I will be going non resonated as it will be a weekend / fun car .

Good to hear @521williams - sounds like a result..!
So yeah, my supplying dealer handed me a set of keys at 10am this morning and said see you any time before 5pm 🙃 It was a bone dry day and I had a few normal work things to do, which was great as I wanted to see how it would handle daily duties
Short answer is yes! gonna stick with my order…
I put in a mixture of city driving (including awkward parking) and dull carriage ways, as well as decent B roads and a bit of motorway…
My previous test drive was more ‘let’s see what it’ll do’ but this was much more varied (and worthwhile)
Got pretty much used to the clutch and accelerator calibration within a couple of hours. Driving slowly, smoothly was initially tricky, but totally doable and satisfying when you get it.
It felt like a special place to be and looking at the sea of SUVs and commuter cars, I kind of enjoyed the idea that we’re just a bit out of step with our choice…
I was surprised how good it felt to get in a 6-tenths flow on a good road, and just enjoy the steering and balance, rather than bouncing off the limiter… and I didn’t feel like a ‘dick in a flash car’ around town (which I think is a bit bit of a risk in other more er, premium performance cars…)
The driveline is deffo a bit ‘mechanical’ and there can be a mild clunk from somewhere around the prop shaft/ diff when engaging 1st from a standstill. 1st to 2nd shift was a bit notchy through town, but I found the slightest pressure towards you when shifting made for a cleaner gear change🤷‍♂️
The hill start is shite. The interior door handles are shite. The radio home screen looks hilariously complicated. Tyre noise was annoying. The engine noise generator is gonna get switched right off too… so I agree a cat-back exhaust sounds like a really interesting idea, though I’d be after a milder (resonated) flavour I think…
Yeah, so basically really glad I got a normal days driving in, and I’m totally excited again - they’re a special setup 🤙

Sounds great 😃
A big part of the appeal for me is the fact numbers are so low. The salesman said you won't get another chance to order one of these new 🤷🏻‍♂️ after reading some posts over the weeks about new batches, that was starting to grate at me a bit aswell 🙈
