I first thought 40k was a bit silly.

But then last night I went onto the Mazda configurator and built a top of the range MX-5 RF adding rear camera and grey metallic paint.

That came out at £35,702

I remember when they launched for 13k. I really should have got a mk1.
 
I very nearly bought an orange 30th Anniversary edition with a soft top which was about £26k a few years ago. Loved the look of it and the fit and finish but it was just too tight size wise for me when driving and the passenger footwell was virtually non existent.

Have had a Mk1 (best fit) and several Mk3’s but at 6ft 2” the Mk4 just isn’t an option. Especially the one spec’d above with the folding roof and it’s ultimately why I ended up ordering a GR86.

The GR86 price of £29,995 was a pleasant surprise as I was half expecting it to be comparable to the RF MX-5 and be low to mid-thirties. So if I’d missed out on an order I’d be ok with paying around £35-36k which is reasonable and probably around where the majority of sales will settle at for the foreseeable future.

I shall bide my time and await the "revealing". For some reason, I have developed a talent for waiting for things over the last eight months or so...

Electric blue GR86 being offered for £38k on pistonheads. I wonder how many of the 430 went to flippers? Seems like 30-40% based on the limited numbers so far. So could be 100+ up for grabs at inflated prices.

I said before I don't like flippers as it doesn't feel right, especially those who intended to do this from the start. But there's nothing you can do about it. I feel sorry for the person who pays over the odds and really wants the car. It's all the more galling that flippers got them before those of us who will use them as intended. Everyone had a price though and mine is far higher than what they've gone up for so far. I plan on keeping forever.

Strange thing is that post has disappeared from the GR86 pistonheads thread after I posted here.

It's okay, flippers will keep the prices high. Imaging coming to the end of your PCP and the car still being worth 30k?
