GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

My friend has had two. The first one the paint hadn’t cured and flies were sticking to the paint. Lotus wrapped the car to get over the problem.
He was going to take them to the cleaners over it and they gave in and gave him a new car.
That one came with the incorrect suspension set up and the wrong tyres.
I love Lotus and I’ve owned and Elise Cup previously. I wouldn’t be buying a new one I know that. Quality is shocking for the price tag.
Osmosis under the paint would be my main concern. They have plenty of those issues with the doors.
My friend has had an Emira for 3 years now without any problems. I guess it’s luck of the draw. I have read similar concerns around paint but not met anyone yet, that’s had a significant issue.

almost time to say goodbye to mine. It's been a good run and loved it but moving to one of my top 2 cars .. a lotus emira in hethel yellow (the other being a r8 which might be next once ive paid for the lotus in a few years). Preston dealer offered £25k, dealer selling offered £26k but still trying to get at least £27k. Will i regret it, probably! as it's low milage and looks better than the day it arrived, but for me it was a impulse buy at the time (only knew about it a couple of weeks before) as i didnt know too much about it and really only went for it as it was a fantastic price for what we get, but was always a stepping stone to something else..
The Emiras do look amazing, especially in hethel yellow. I hope you get a good’un! The v6 does sound great too.

I’m sure you’ve done your research, but the paint osmosis thing does seem to be a real issue, think the place I bought my 86 from at the time had 4-5 Emiras in for warranty repairs to the bodywork.

yeh , done alot of research! mine has had 2 new doors fitted and so not much more i can do now. everything looks good apart from a bit of rubber seal loose near the engine , i assume because of the heat. i just hope the 2 doors are new manuf doors and not 2 old doors from factory but i suspect with the issues these have probs all been used! the last thing lotus want is more doors to fix under warranty. mine will be garaged so im hoping this will help aswell.

i've almost sold mine so im just waiting for payment then i'll update with what i got.

car now sold for 29k . 5k miles . (included remark exhaust, full all round splitters, duck tail spoiler, rear aero cover, rear window extension from Maxton, GR Rubber Boot cover ). So probs lost around 2/3k in 3 years... not bad.
Probably could not hire a car for three years for 3k🤔, and definitely not a sports car👍

As another data point for this community, I have also sold mine for £29.5k through a well known online sales platform.

Toyota said 'their best' was £26k. Pretty good experience with the online platforms and they achieved guides/reserves for me.

Be bullish however and push up whatever guide they provide.

'73, 6000 miles, no mods

Which platform?
Motorway suggest £26.5k for mine which seems a bit off recent sales.
That does seem a little low given the price difference between lower and higher mileage ones isn't huge on autotrader. What are you replacing the 86 with?
