GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

I think the non Toyota servicing may be against you when it comes to resale
I appreciate that a specialist will no doubt do a better job and use genuine Toyota parts but if I was buying a near £30k year old car I would want dealer servicing purely because if there is a big warranty claim in years to come Toyota will try to wriggle out of it saying its down to the specialist who done the early servicing and the onus of proof to confirm the correct parts and service procedures was adhered to would be on the owner - a lot of hassle when they can't quibble if its a full Toyota service history, I think its narrowing down your potential buyers to people who wouldn't worry about this.
Only my fourpenny worth of course

Block exemption regs prevent manufacturers trying to wiggle out of their warranty obligations if the car is serviced elsewhere. As long as OEM parts or better are used and the garage is VAT registered it's not a problem, they would never have a leg to stand on.

You only get 3 year warranty though if not serviced at Toyota.

Yeah I forgot to mention that. The additional 12 month warranty for upto 10 years has to be done at a dealership. Sneaky buggers.

If anyone comes across a GR been broken in the coming weeks, please let me know. I'm after the drive train for my first gen.
This was just auctioned today on Copart for cheap (although there was a reserve) - unfortunately being a Cat B, regular folk can't buy these :

In europe they were 2 years in production.

I have one i use for track days and one waiting to get used on trackdays:)

I like driving these cars on track. They are under 1300kg and feel nimble.

Don t have any interest in hybrids or EV so in few years time when the other is all used up and take the new one.

This is a whole new level of impressive.

I do this with trousers sometimes - find a pair in a style, colour, material and size etc. and get a second pair. Not graduated to doing this with cars yet!

Your purchase of a spare car does raise a very interesting point. What are people going to use at track days when there are no longer any used cheap sports cars available? It'll just be a sea of Caterhams and the like.

almost time to say goodbye to mine. It's been a good run and loved it but moving to one of my top 2 cars .. a lotus emira in hethel yellow (the other being a r8 which might be next once ive paid for the lotus in a few years). Preston dealer offered £25k, dealer selling offered £26k but still trying to get at least £27k. Will i regret it, probably! as it's low milage and looks better than the day it arrived, but for me it was a impulse buy at the time (only knew about it a couple of weeks before) as i didnt know too much about it and really only went for it as it was a fantastic price for what we get, but was always a stepping stone to something else..

Emira is a great step up. One that is in the back of my mind too.

My friend has had two. The first one the paint hadn’t cured and flies were sticking to the paint. Lotus wrapped the car to get over the problem.
He was going to take them to the cleaners over it and they gave in and gave him a new car.
That one came with the incorrect suspension set up and the wrong tyres.
I love Lotus and I’ve owned and Elise Cup previously. I wouldn’t be buying a new one I know that. Quality is shocking for the price tag.
Osmosis under the paint would be my main concern. They have plenty of those issues with the doors.
