GR86 GR86 - Brake Upgrade Guide

Brembo

Front disks - 09.A921.1X with pads - P.78.021X

Rear disks - 09.C662.1X with pads - P.78.018 (no x pads available for the rear)

I went with the Xtra range as the Sport range is still showing on websites as 'in development' for the GR86.

After some code cross referencing, I sourced the above from Autodoc for £330 delivered.
Thanks, I was already searching using those part numbers, very helpful! I'll get the fronts from the eBay link I found and the rears from Autodoc then. Cheers.

Still finding them good I assume? Quick question...are they noisier than stock? I always wonder if dimpled/perforated/grooved pads make more dust and noise.

Only at first use, the fronts take a little warming. After that, same noise as stock once dusted off. There is always a slight rumble from patterned disks as well but nothing intrusive.

Any photos please? I want to swap mine out after a code brown incident and £2000 for a bbk seems a waste for me.

As an alternative to those brembo discs, would a set of smooth febi bilstein be a good choice?

I ordered the Brembo (discs) from the Opie Oils page on eBay. £296, so pretty pricey. They messaged me a couple of days later to say there's been a mistake and they didn't actually have them in stock, and it would be a couple of months if I wanted them backordered...or I could have a refund.

However in the interim, I had been having second thoughts that spending almost £300 on discs was probably a bit silly when I'm unlikely to notice much difference...so I took the opportunity to get my money back. I've spent the morning fitting the Endless MX72 pads that I already had to the OEM discs, which still looks in good condition anyway. When my service is due later this year I might ask Abbey to upgrade the brake fluid and that should be enough stopping performance for me I think.

Happy to be corrected here, but for a vast majority -I don't think "upgrading" discs is necessary unless they're worn down considerably and you fancy a change of pattern (e.g. jhook/groove).

The stock discs, paired with good pads (with good bite/feel), and fresh brake fluid , should be plenty.

I'd spend money on good pads, and frequent changes of quality fluid.

Agree, it is all down to what you do as a driver and your preference.
Based Scotland one thing I didn’t appreciate until I changed to grooved and dimpled on my MX5 is you don’t have to worry about water wash off in that initial application, it’s a feeling I now don’t like with standard discs.

I have to (shamefully) admit that I didn’t give a hoot about increased performance when I bought the @Godspeed BBK set up. For me it was just about aesthetics, especially as I could have the calipers in a colour of my choosing and they were a heck of a lot less expensive than the Toyota BBK at the time. The bigger floating discs and larger calipers sit 'menacingly' behind both my Winter OEM wheels and Summer Bola FLEs and often draw comments at car meets.
My only gripe is the Maracas 'chirping' that you can get with grooved/hooked discs when underway - I subsequently changed the supplied Ferodo racing pads to a softer 'OEM+' set from @Godspeed which helped lessen the noise of the Mexican percussion band that kept running alongside my car when I had the window open. It probably doesn't help that I drive a bit like Miss Daisy around town and am likely not hard enough on my brakes ... in fact yesterday saw me remove the replacement front pads and give them a bit of a roughing up on the pavement as they too seemed to be heading towards shiny like the Ferodo pads were when I took them out.
I have obviously considered swapping out the floating J-hook discs for a set of similar plain ones, but tbh I don't know if I can be arsed with the extra expense or hassle of getting it done. I'd also not appreciated the water 'wash off' effect as mentioned above by @Gibbo78, so I guess my gently playing Mexican percussion section will be with me for a while yet! I can't hear it with 'Thunderstruck' playing at volume anyway ;) .

Autodocs prices can fluctuate a fair bit from day to day. Not looked at them before so if anyone else is in the same position thought it was worth a mention.
Exactly this - the prices did move around a fair bit before I bought mine, that was over a year ago now.

Got totally annoyed (being polite) with AutoDocs with their stock exchange esk prices, and their pathetic can't speak to a human customer service team, so ordered the Brembo set from ebay suppliers.

I slung on those brembo extra front and prime rear pads 911sse listed (thank you) left the standard discs and cleaned them. Got them for about £100.

Significant difference. I haven't had to do an emergency stop from high speed but that is an impressive difference from some pads, at the pressures id normally use round some back roads i found my torso leaning forward out the seat. God knows what a set of APs or Brembo calipers feel like. I had a megane 3 rs and dont remember those Brembo calipers feeling this good.

Loads of pad left on my stock ones, covered 8600 miles.
