GR86 GR86 - Brake Upgrade Guide

At the first annual service the brake pads were showing 80% wear and fractures at 11200 miles. Exactly what I had expected due to driving style on the local roads we have to enjoy around here but more rapid than initially though. Based on my experience of upgrading the Saab Aero last year, I went with the same pad and fluid combo on the existing disks, which were in perfect condition. The Saab had to receive new disks and had some Brembos fitted. So a week before our 3 week Euro hoon, I am fitting these for some comfort. This will never be a track car anyway.

Give this a try 😁
Tested out the upgrade today, after bedding them in, on a road I know well. Bite certainly better as well as feel through the pedal. Let's see how they do across the Dolomites 😁

Morning all.

Just a quick update to let you know that the rear brake kit I helped design via Godpseed is now available via their website. There will be a Β£50 discount code available later today which I am awaiting from Ian, I will share this here as soon as I get it.

As per the front kit, custom caliper colours, choices of pads and discs are all available. This kit would be approximately Β£650-670 to put together yourself by sourcing the parts (as per Will's information at the start of this thread), making a Β£700 purchase price a very valuable product.

Thanks :)
Ross

Fitted the megane 3rs kit today. Very pleased. In case anyone is wondering, they fit under the stock wheels aswell! Photo below.

This the kit from Godspeed? Agree that the man maths is starting to work, especially flinging the car round the swiss alps and smoking the brakes got me thinking they could do with an upgrade..! Also positive that they fit with OEM wheels.

The other option when I looked was EBC Apollo who will included braided lines and uprated pads for year but is about Β£1500 for 4 pots on front but I like the idea of the Godspeed Setup as it's more OEM looking. Wonder of they can paint them Electric Blue to match the car or would it be too much and I just stick with Red. Hmm..

Might wait until the new year as other bits have to happen first.

They can paint them yes, someone else had them done yellow.

On the ebc apollo, I almost pulled the trigger on that last year but it's firstly more expensive, and also the replacement discs are Β£750+ for the axle! (might include new bells though, not sure)

edit : been looking for the link this afternoon but can't find the one specific to our car, happy to be corrected if anyone finds it, above was from memory, and showing for other models.

Godspeed are Β£350 for disc and fixings

That's great. It's nice to see some sensibly priced options out there, bonus they fit under the stock wheels. I was hell bent on importing the TRD GR monoblock kit but now I'm not so sure.

Does anyone know if the EBC 330mm kit fits under the standard wheels without spacers?

I have a brake kit already from my previous car and EBC will sell me the hardware to fit to the next car which is handy

Spoke to Ian and I've just ordered a full front & rear big brake kit from Godspeed  .
As they don't recognise Toyota's paint code (DAR), I've decided on Prismatic Powder's 'Chevy Rapid Blue' for the calipers, which seems like a decent pairing with the Electric Blue of the GR86. Fitting at Hypertech TBC.

I'm very curious to see how this goes. If it comes out well I may do the same

An observation since fitting the megane kit. I think the bell of the disc is slightly thinner / higher offset than the oem, it resulted initially in my aftermarket wheel rubbing at full lock (I am at-2.3 camber...). It seems okay now so suspension might have settled. Not something i thought would be affected.

Goes for any bbk (that uses a different disc setup) really! Got some shim spacers just in case.

What's contained within the full kit out of interest?

So good you quoted me twice eh @911sse ? 😘
When I said full kit, I meant both front and rear 2-pot sets. They come with everything you need to bolt straight on, except for any lines because the standard (OEM) ones fit and it uses them. For GT86, read also GR86.
This is the text taken from my invoice for your info:
β€œToyota GT86 front Godspeed 330mm brake kit including 330mm x 28mm G hook fully floating discs and bells, alloy brackets and bolts, pads , Brembo 4 pot calipers custom powder coated in Chevy Rapid blue and pad fitting kit.
Toyota GT86 rear 2 pot brake kit, include Chevy Rapid blue calipers, 316mm G hook discs, kevlar pads, bolts and pad pin kit
.”

That's the bier kicking in last night. The kit sounds good, are you able to DM me the cost out of interest? Although, I know you'll have paid more to match your nail colour πŸ˜πŸ‘
