GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I subscribed to the Toyota newsletter and received a message by email. If you want one, you'll need to order it online quickly as it will likely sell out quickly. I also learn a lot in a German GR Yaris Whats App group.
I can confirm the following prices in Italy: (incl. 22% VAT)
With automatic: €55,000 (manual €52,000), „precious metal“ color already included.
Forged wheels: €4,000
Tech package: €1,500 (sound system, rear view cam, parking sensors)
IPT (tax) + „put on the road tax“ €150 + €500
==> €61,151, of which reservation fee is €3,000
Delivery scheduled end of August 😊

OMG, Do they call this inflation. they seem to be getting more expensive by the day let alone the week. It a job to understand the difference in Euro price from one country to another.

Thank you @Norbi for the details.
As usual Italy is the most expensive country in everything, (except for France, of course).
I really don't understand why those inflated prices for optionals as well, but it is what it is.
For sure prices of used-Mk1s will follow suit soon with this price levels set for the new Mk2s.

I got my GR Yaris HP for a great price of €33,600! Ordered on March 16, 2021 & received on November 11, 2022. There is around €14,000 in tuning and optimization = €47,600. Something like this will certainly not happen again.

Actually I'm starting considering moving to a country like yours in the future...
I'm really sick and tired of Italy, its insane bureaucracy, and law-breaking at any level as a widespread daily habit by almost all Italian people.
I will sure get in touch with you if I decide moving :D
Interesting, I’m going the other way. From 15 years in Texas to Alto Adige this summer. Very much looking forward to that! Maybe we should have a private chat…

Actually being there before myself as well. :) I've been abroad for 15 years and got back to Italy two years ago.
I'm not happy at all with my choice, and looking forward to get the chance to go back abroad as soon as possible.
But Alto Adige is quite different from the "ordinary" Italy, maybe you will find it quite good to live in.

I'm convinced the blatant price gouging on the new MK2 is going to jack up used MK1 prices faster than you can blink.

The MK2 prices we're seeing in Europe are completely insane. It's mind-boggling. Yet, for those of us clinging to our MK1s, this is a twisted kind of jackpot because there's absolutely no chance in hell MK1 prices will tank - unless someone is desperate enough to ditch their MK1 for the MK2. That's a panic sale, pure and simple, and it screams of bad judgment - unless, of course, you're swimming in money.

Anyone eyeing a GR Yaris with half a brain would snatch up a slightly used MK1, saving themselves, for example, a cool 10,000 Euros, rather than splurging an extra 20,000 Euros on the MK2, which is an outright robbery compared to the MK1's original price.

I don't think they will.
50k€ sounds like an insane amount of money. Except... A full option Civic Type R costs 66k€ in the same markets. And almost all other hot hatches are currently not being built anymore (no Megane RS, no Golf GTI/T, no 308GTI, no i30N).
The only current cheaper alternative is a Focus ST, and that's only 2000€ cheaper.

I think the GR Yaris pulled in a new audience with its combination of brand , performance and relatively low cost.
I was about a year of dithering away from my dream car, the Civic Type R I had promised myself but then they raised the price from £37k to close to £50k , which meant my dreams also went with the price rise.
Then they rose from the ashes like a Phoenix with the news of the GR Yaris. The MK1 is now looking like the last performance car I could have afforded , if the MK2 is up around £50k which I think it is very likely to be.
I paid £36k for my new MK1 earlier this year and to get even that approved , I promised the boss it was my dream forever car.
At £50K , I would be rather be paying down the mortgage.

Same boat here. It's a weird feeling. My salary has gone up quite a bit more in the last 3 years than the previous 6, and yet, I couldn't have afforded the house we bought 5 years ago if I were to buy it at market price today, and probably not the MK2 GRY either.

I'm beginning to move towards the idea that MK2 isn't going to happen for me and wondering if Toyota will reveal a G16E-GTS powered MR2 at TAS 2025...

No they won't. They already confirmed the GR86 (or it successor) will get the G16E-GTS so why would they create an MR2 which would fit in the same market.

They ran the MR2 alongside the Corolla/Levin/Sprinter in the 80s, I don't see confirmation of a G16E-GTS 86 as precluding the MR2 coming back with the same engine.

The current 86 is much more a Celica-successor than a Corolla successor, and the time where the Celica and MR2 were sold together was also a time where there was a big market for small sports cars. Sadly that time has long passed...

For me, the MR seems very unlikely as they now have a platform and an engine to make a good small sports car, I don't see why they would redevelop a new platform to make it mid-engine. If they really wanted a mid-engine sports car, the GT86 would already have been one.

I'm not sure that tracks given all the marketing and the name was pointing at the AE86 as the historic inspiration. AW11 and AE series cars shared the same 4AG engine too.

Have you seen the BestCar reporting on this?

According to Best Car, Toyota engineers had been working on an ultra-hardcore mid-engined GRMN Yaris. The car had made it to the prototype testing phase, but because it would largely retain the GR Yaris’ styling, management thought that the car may not have as much impact as they would like. So the project is now shifting gears to become a reborn MR2 instead.

Hyundai has been developing a mid-engine version of the i30N/Veloster N which never made it to production either. As far as I'm aware even only 1 mid-engine hot hatche ever made it to production (Clio V6). It would be great if Toyota decides there is still a market for mid-engine sports cars, but it's going to be so much cheaper to make the GR86 a front-mid engine (like the Z4).
