GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Batteries have a long way to improve... to mention a few: price, energy density (kWh/Kg), safety and... polution!
That's why makes sense to (still) search for alternatives - incl H2.
Better battery chemestries are already on their way and sometines already for sale. LMFP, Na based, silicon anodes and (in combination with) solid state are all massively better and will cater for the large chunk of EV that will eventually replace near all ICE.
EU is also on top of the game and will asap regulate batteries so they pollute and destroy far less in their whole lifecycle.

the future will be whatever governments decide to finance/deter. Otherwise, EV's wouldn't stand a chance

I don't believe that, but I know I won't convince you, and vice versa.

Anyway, once again the Mk2 Yaris thread has been derailed with EV talk. I'm sure the mods will be along shortly to clean up

Yepp... not convinced here! :)
And it's really ironic there's some people bashing into Toyota's GRY Mk2 price policy... not realizing that most of price increase are added "green-shift /EV" government taxes.

I'm still not feeling the interior.
I think I'm getting a little bite more used to seeing pictures of it though.
I did go from being appalled about what they did to the interior to just finding it far from great.
Have to say it's really growing on me.

It seems to be that way for many people... It should, given that this will soon be your only option to get into a new GR Yaris :)
I'm not at all tempted to make the jump though, I prefer tuning mine to get it exactly where I want it to be.
Yeah, the costs make upgrading a no-no for me anyway, but I can't pretend I wouldn't like one. Likewise it isn't going to make me any less happy with my own little performance car bargain of this decade :)

It's not that I would hate having a MK2... It's just that the price makes it far from an attractive upgrade prospect, given that a well modded MK1 with 15-20k€ in Mods will certainly outperform a MK2 in pure speed as well as general driving enjoyment.

I'm still hoping that the facelift rear bumper and mesh diffuser cover will fit the Mk1. I think I'd be very tempted to buy one to show off my HKS exhaust at the back, and maybe fit some vents into it at the same time.

Looks like the outlets are wider on the Mk2, so won't be any good to you anyway.
With a Milltek exhaust it’s an easy fix, because you have the silencer, C shape pipes and tailpipes in three pieces, you would just need to adapt the C shape tubes and that’s easy.

I’m taking for granted that the exhaust mounting points don’t change, still to be confirmed.

Carry 700kg batteries to come 300km.
A diesel car that carries ca. 70kg fuel goes 700km plus.

The extra weight is killing the fun for me. That is why i love driving the Yaris GR and GR86 products. Also a reason i sold my my BMW M car. New M2 is 1700kg totally not interesting anymore!

The weight of most EV is insane!

Weight is the enemy of any car to have fun with!

Light EVs are coming. And the old (but still ahead of this time) BMW i3 is only 1300kg and great fun because of it! Only needs bit more tyre....

On topic: 20kg more for the auto is hardly a lot, really suprised the new one isn't heavier actually...

When I look at the new dashboard, I always think, “what a waste of money”. Toyota could have got excellent seats from one of the suppliers (Recaro ) for a fraction of the cost.

Really hoping it’s not much more than £37-38k. I’ve been priced out of a lot of cars lately and would be a real shame if I couldn’t afford a YARIS. As good a car it is to drive it’s still a Yaris quality interior and exterior at the end of the day.
