GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Would be fun to see the gear ratios of that new automatic 8-speed. if all gears are used and what is the theoretical top speed.
It might be better in the sweetspot if it is able to utilize shorter gearing. Good for boys in hurry.

Seriously, they wrote that? I tried it exactly twice without tuning. And once I needed 4.85 seconds, completely stock without tuning.

There are even some videos from people who had the car in their hands for the first time and also drove 5.0 or 4.9 and similar.I've even seen 4.71... I'm still talking about 100% stock.

Also a form of marketing...
Yeah. For some reason Toyota is also pretty conservative about the performance of the car in general.
Multiple people found out that the engine makes more power than officially claimed.
It accelerates faster than officially claimed.
Also the speed limiter of 230 kmh which definitely isn't because of aerodynamic reason or whatever because the car is excellent in that regard. Sport Auto measured it and gave it 9 out of 10 points because it only has minimal lift front and rear at 200 kmh.

Im almost reminds me of that Japanese gentlemen's agreement in the 90s where every performance car made no more then "280hp" but reality was quite different.

Similar to the original U.K. Subaru Impreza
Performance car at the time said there’s reason to suspect the car produces more bhp than stated.

Was just watching the carwow review and their numbers don't make a lot of sense for the quarter mile.

2024 Auto - 5.1s to 60, 13.61s to quarter mile, difference of 8.51s between 60 and hitting a quarter mile
2024 Manual - 5.06s to 60, 13.67s to quarter mile, difference of 8.61 seconds between 60 and the quarter
2020 - 6.0s to 60, 14.12s to quarter mile, difference of 8.06 seconds between 60 and quarter.

So it's 0.9 seconds slower to 60, but only 0.5 seconds slower in the quarter mile.

Doesn't make much sense a car with -20bhp and -30 torques is faster between 60 and the quarter.
Autocar figures from March 2021 damp

as with Mk1, the temperature plays a huge role in what performance you will get.
I've been driving in -10 - -20'C for few weeks and car has too much power.

The ambient temperature was just above freezing when the UK media drove the prototypes just before XMAS.

Must say the Mk2 starts growing on me. First impression of the looks and the cockpit was not so convincing. Tech wise, I would love some more power but what is most intriguing to me is the stiffening of the chassis. It makes the mk2 more like a GRMN. Everything else is possible to upgrade if we wants to,

Found som info about a Concept versjon and must say as a pure white owner I was quite disaponinted how the new mk2 front looked. But adding a front spoiler and side skirts will make it look a lot bader. Maybe TRD or others will make a front, sides and wing kit.

Guess I will have to see it before deciding to swap not.

I had similar thoughts about the GRMN when I read about the additional chassis weld/adhesive. With the other upgrades I think this will be much quicker around a circuit, and with more headroom to tune the engine due to the additional cooling & strengthened internals. I have taken mine on track and plan to do more so as a pure track/driving car the upgrades make sense. But the front end is just so poorly styled. The lines are all wrong, even if it is more functional. That plus the almost certain to high price still makes me think I’m sticking with the first gen car. If I want a purely track focused car in future I would probably go with something like a caterham/atom (budget permitting) but I do think the new GRY will be very good on track.

Also a nomenclature needs to be agreed for this model.
So far I’ve seen:
-Gen1/gen 2
-Mark 1/mark 2

Imo it’s a mark 1.5 as this is a facelift not a new version but I realise that just adds a 3rd option!

Just got back from the dealership, went to check my newly arrived mk1 and took the winter wheels so I can get the car Saturday.
Asked about the Mk2, they said that allegedly it won't come to sweden! They don't know the reason, but said that probably because it is easier to sell other cars than the yaris.

Well this might be true, until it changes. Still early, maybe the final decision has not been taken yet - or can be changed.

But on the other hand, during four years of selling the car, we now have 220 of them in Sweden. That's one per week roughly. The mk2 will probably sell a lot less then that, so maybe they are thinking "why bother?" Toyota Sweden sold roughly 27000 cars in 2023 in small Sweden, why bother with the effort to sell 10-20 more?

There are some murmurings about a lack of a 'developed for WRC' badge. To me, this seems pretty trivial (and obviously could change), but it made me wonder if the facelift remains a bona-fide homologated rally car!? Anyone know how that all works?

Yeah, no badge = not a racecar. Ask the FIA, that that's just the way it works ;)

They actually said that ? Where in Sweden was this ?

I imagine you locked in a price a lot lower than the current retail price, so it may end being another 4 to 5k to get the MK2 should you decide to cancel, I suppose it is down to how much you want to own the latest spec, if you want the MK2 I would certainly cancel the order, if you are happy with the MK1 then you’ve got a cheap GRY.

I did indeed (even got a discount on the original price), and I'm not a fan of the whole ISA idea either (nor of the looks of the new car, both outside and inside) :D Maybe the mk2 still has to grow on me... but for now I'm going with the mk1

Toyota Sweden made their 1st post online yesterday about the MK2, maybe check with your dealer once again

wow this is news as you guys got GR86 still. Wouldn't be surprised if Finland skipped this too as it is not really a moneymaker here.

Toyota Finland Fb page already advertised it. It will be available to order summer 24.
I know it does not make ANY sense to swap my car(only 17k km's) for the new one, but I will probably do it. Unless the price is something ridiculous. Financially it's probably very stupid and there's always going to be a new model comming.. or some other car that I want. And there's nothing wrong with the "old" car.
