GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Should be available to order from around March, with deliveries from Q3 2024.

In the UK it’s going to be online orders only, but I think most other markets will stick to traditional dealer ordering.

Have to say I’m a bit heartbroken. Felt like 25k of us made got married to Toyota and bought into the limited production WRC homologation.

I’m torn. Am I one of those dudes with he’s old first model in love for a decade or am I the snob who’s always driving the newest model…

Wonder what pricing on Norway is going to be.

I mean. I guess I feel a bit betrayed. I’ve been going around proud telling people the story of the GR Yaris, and now anyone and everyone will be able to buy one and a newer one at that. What separates us from the other hot hatches or Porsche dudes now? When is the Mk3 with 310bhp due? Q3 2026?

I can imagine your a little disappointed, I have a GR86 and I’m keen to see production or availability dry up, to keep it limited, I have a hope we don’t have anymore then 1250 uk cars by the time the last one is registered, and that makes it a little more special to me, must say with only 40 GR86 cars for sale it’s 1 in 30 so they have definitely found happy owners.
The GR Yaris MK2 is a blow to MK1 owners, the rush to get a mark 2 will no doubt bring a lot of MK1 to the market for those who decide to swop from their MK1, long term the values will even out I’m sure, but short term I can see £3k wiped from your current values, great for those looking to buy a GR Yaris, not an issue for those holding long term, and most likely not bother those getting out and into a MK2.
I will most likely make an attempt to get a MK2, but if the gap is too large between a MK1 and MK2 I may take a MK1.
The GR86 is 100% a keeper though.

I don’t get that view. I wouldn’t care if every car on the road was a GR Yaris or one type or another. I wouldn’t care if they did a formal annual model year update, like most other cars. I wouldn’t care if Toyota produces multiple generations of the GR Yaris.

It make zero difference to my enjoyment of my car 🤷‍♂️

I can see your point and agree the new one makes toyotas marketing for the original look like a ruse but I doubt they thought it would as sought after as it was , I'm more appreciative that Toyota is still looking to make cars like this,

I'd personally say the new one seems to be improved more as a track car than a 'rally car for the road', auto option, stiffer spring rates, and they've even gone for gps activated driving settings at a track, I'm assuming that's Japan only though.

The new one I'm sure will be better if your chasing lap times but with 0 track use it's irrelevant to me,

Also I couldn't stand looking at that front end every time I got into it, even if it is more functional

And if only 300 are coming to the biggest GR market outside of Japan, then there aren’t going to many mk1 owners (what, 5,000+?) switching to be able to affect values, if that’s a concern.

If anything, the new hype cycle helps keep the interest among non-GRY owners.

All this hand-wringing, navel-gazing, and pearl-clutching. Just drive the bloody things, friends 😁

I would love to agree and hopefully I will as time goes, but right now I’m a bit disappointed. Specs were awesome, drive even better, but the story helped pushing me over the edge and into a 70k EUR Yaris.

Well I will keep an eye on the market, 131 cars for sale today, but I imagine that will increase quiet a lot by the middle of the year, as MK2 cars start to come to the U.K.
I don’t buy the 300 U.K. cars allocation for 1 second, that’s to cause a stir, GR86 got the same 400 cars only none sense and they have delivered 3 times that amount, if the demand is there by means of a waiting list, then they meet it the best they can, and so you can bet another few thousand cars will make it over the next 3 years to the U.K.
The rush to get the 1st cars will be huge, but you will get one later than never if you miss out on the scramble.

Limited numbers make a difference, no one can argue that, Focus RS MK3….£30k today where as the Focus RS MK3 Heritage (only 50 in the U.K. in orange and a little Mountune tune with carbon bits) £80k to £85k
Collectors want exclusivity, not run of the mill and they pay highly to be different.

If you had 10 times more sold than has actually been sold, you would have had the same enjoyment with your personal car, agreed, but now it would have cost you £10k more in depreciation when you sell it than the high residuals you have been blessed with today, that’s a fact, for example, look at the king of cheapish hot hatches, Focus ST, best seller and cheap as chips second hand, that’s just how the market works, more choice, lower price.

I hear you :) I also had, but still have, the feeling of this machine being unique with its history and development. 100% selfish - no MK2 had been pretty nice thinking this is the " new-built-EVO6" or something limited that exist in a low number worldwide.

I am also the teller of the GR Yaris story with WRC homologation and background, to the extent I'm sometimes questioning myself if I'm payed by Toyota..

-But this car has its background and origin which is unlike any other car, I've been to TGR WRT's HQ in Finland and seen pictures and heard stories of how it was born, seen the amazing parts behind the scene where the Rally1 cars are built and maintained. The original GR Yaris IS THE SHIT, l promise you 😁

With MK2 everything has been evaluated and fine-tuned and improved points where possible, perhaps a normal path for the worlds largest car manufacturer when deciding to expand the model, no one have missed the GR-campaign that exists in overload within Toyota the past year, a GR badge is being put on most awkward vehicles to ride on the success of Toyota's motorsport brand.
Most likely a whole new segment buyers will be attracted with the MK2

But the OG is the firstborn forever

Cars cost money. Whaddya gonna do? 😁

I didn’t buy mine as an investment, I don’t plan on selling it any time soon. Leaving aside unrealistic hypotheticals like 10x the number being sold, a few more knocking about isn’t going to affect prices that much.

Having more acclaimed and sought-after models to feed into ‘GR mythology’ may in fact help in the long run.

The days of the Yaris being virtually depreciation-proof are gone but it still has strong residuals, similar in fact to the ST which, if I’d bought one in 2022 would probably have lost a similar amount, looking at prices on AT, PH etc. More in % terms, true, but broadly the same wallet hit.

They did a couple of versions of the escort cosworth, the second being a more refined road car.
I’d prefer the first version.

Saw this on a Facebook group. Did make me laugh.

I bet the MKII dash and interior looks better when you're sat in the car then it does on these photos.
Well, I have to say, based on the experience I made with some delivery van drivers over the years, Mercedes was well adviced pursuing the "Listen to the race and rally drivers" approach Toyota is promoting now for the Mk2 Yaris. These van drivers do not take any prisoners, aren't they?

My local GR centre told me today that there were less than 300 cars coming to the uk, around 60 to the dealers and the rest to online orders.
I thought Mark 2 GRY is meant to be a full production model from reading various reports. This might be the initial allocation, but surely more treacle through over time I am guessing.

The fact that Mr Toyoda and his team have tracked the car on Tarmac (It's primarily a Rally Car) to several points of failure, with an unlimited budget, would be something I don't think many of us would have the opportunity or desire to do.

I am really intrigued as to whether or not they have tackled the issue with low oil pressure under very heavy Braking on Track.

Does the revised car have a Baffled Sump? Baffles me!

I think the allocation thing is just a result of the reduced Yaris production now that the factory has to also churn out Corollas, which in turn is influenced by the need to balance ICE sales vs EVs to avoid fines in some markets.

When you look at how many were registered in each quarter on howmanyleft then you can see that at one point they were chucking 300-500 per month at the UK. That slowed to a trickle of only a few dozen cars per month and I doubt production will return to late 2020/early 2021 levels again.

There’s also the fact that there isn’t infinite demand for such a specialised car, and although few new buyers will come into the market because of the auto, TGB could not hope to sell another 5,000 of the new model. When you consider a fair number of buyers will be coming out of a mk1, there just aren’t enough people willing/able to buy such a focused, compromised car.
