GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

@Armijs does the auto have brake hold?
No, when the auto cruise comes to a complete stop, you have to put your foot on the brake otherwise it lacks the ability to hold the vacuum for the brake i guess and after a few seconds after stopping it starts rolling, the only city driving issue really.

🤬 one of my main complaints of driving an auto in the city I live in 😭 even the hybrid Yaris I drive has it 😏

I can't imagine the new one not having it? Try a (very) hard press on the brake.
I dont know about different markets and specs, but my Mk2 Auto premium spec does not have it.

The manual does mention auto cruise in two points, one with auto hold one without.

The manual references cars without brake hold like it’s a country specific option but doesn’t mention anything for cars with.

But that's specifically for cruise control (meaning it will stop to 0km/h). Brake hold is when you are standing still and you can take your foot of the brake without creeping.

The car does not have a button like a regular Corolla for example for that function, but the one i care about auto cruise brake hold is also not present. I dont really use the auto hold button on other cars as the regular auto cruise control i use everywhere does that by default when you are behind someone in town.

So today I had a test drive of a new manual car, the Snows Waterlooville demonstrator. My car is due with them end of October but an automatic.

My post from the other day covers the majority of changes although I did notice the door handles have changed from chrome to a shiny metallic colour not that it is anything to get excited about.

Wireless CarPlay very quick to set up and the buttons have been removed from the media display and are now digital on screen. If you don’t need to use them, then you can hide them and make the CarPlay screen bigger.

Setting off the biggest change that was noticeable straight away is just how much quieter the car is in the cabin. Road noise has probably dropped 5 to 10 dB! (At a guess) however this car did have a boot mat that came from the factory so that could be part of the difference. Even the windscreen wipers were completely silent whereas mine with new blades still makes a bit of noise.

Acceleration, you can definitely fill the extra power and talk and just feels constant power through the rev range, the square with the gear number on the display then flashes amber or red depending where you are in the rough range for you to shift up and I found it was within my peripheral vision.

Handling was definitely more direct through the steering wheel with suspension slightly firmer, this was tested out on some very rough roads with some big compressions, but it didn’t take away from the cars ability to dart along B roads at pace.

The gearbox was a lot nicer to use still slightly notchy in the lower gears but a lot smoother than the previous generation car.

I deliberately left the speed limit warning on for half of my drive and I can easily see myself not turning it off when doing commuting or long European drives it beeps once when slowing down into a lower speed limit and I think it was two or three times but quieter when going over the limit and then it stops. It was nowhere near as bad as what I thought and you can go in the settings and change it quite quickly.

No changes in cruise control and lane assist other than the buttons are a different layout which took some time getting used to the new layout but that’s like any new car.

The new improved visibility is great although I never found it an issue to change in my car it’s certainly better.
Guildford Toyota has an auto if your interested in testing.

Did passenger ride, wasn't allowed to drive but still got my own impressions and sat stationary. Basically like we have said and read already. Manual gear change clearly slicker, ECU and boost management clearly improved, smoother but bit less rowdy perhaps. Seemed more willing to rotate from the rear (stock vs stock). Very very nice driver's car.

I get that it’s a precious new car but anywhere that won’t let me drive to form my own driving impression from behind the wheel won’t get my money. Moot point in this instance as theres’s curently none or very little availability anyway unless already have one on order but even so…

Can only book one test driver at a time, I could have a go too but not in the market for one ...

Oh, the suspension is a bit firmer but damping is still excellent for a stock car.

It must be nice to be from country where you actually get sports cars to test. Here we are happy to be able to buy them, but apart from BMW it's hard to get anything to test drive. Even if you get a test drive it's around the block.

Depends on the brand.
No chance of getting a test drive in a GR Yaris (as they are sold out). But you can pretty easily get a test drive in a 911.

I've had the chance to try the new GR Yaris, and it was Great :)

pasting insta-text here, if anyone has questions I'm happy to wright more 👋

The exiting day finally came when it was time to drive the new GR Yaris, the Mk2, the facelift, the new version etc etc 🤩 And it is a new version, it’s a new car! It’s refined in many ways, the engine has a bit more power and a different character and so does the chassis with a bit of dancing, think even the gearbox is a bit different.
For the eye the dashboard is definitely new, and 100% digital with more alerts and blings.. the red seatbelts are only red at the front seats.

-So is it better than the OG, the original Homologation car with the WRC-sticker..😬 hard to say actually!
Depends what you like, rougher louder and analog or smoother and refined ?
Obviously plenty of parameters to compare but when it comes to actual driving each one needs to make its own choices - both cars are just fantastic and decisions are tough 😍🏁

You can test one here. First dealer demonstrator has already been on the road for a month. Also pretty sure they are still available to order here.

I might be in the minority, but I’ve always preferred a rougher, louder, and more analog experience in a rally-inspired car - and I always will. One of the biggest perks of owning the MK1, for me, is the ability to easily delete the infotainment screen (RC-style) using an OEM part, which I still plan on doing once it arrives. In my experience, digital dashboards age quickly, and there’s no way to eliminate that obnoxiously useless space if you remove the nav screen on the MK2. It might not be a problem for most, but it's a big deal to me lol

yes in this case I'm in favour for the old school, but that can of course change once you get used to the MK2 and it's newer design and functionality
