GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

heres my 1971 Escort RS1600 roof, it was made by Ford 53 years ago and last had a cheap 'blow over' back in 1985. I suppose Ford thought there was no need for a fancy roof as the car weighed in around a 1000 kilos....

Once again: just two variants of same technology principle. Each one of these more suitable for specific applications.
And Bugatti could even sprinkle some gold dust on top - so they could better justify the price-tag. Engineering wise: would be heavier... thus worst!

Kind of misses the point. With more and more safety features required to be on a car manufacturers have to look at options to make the car lighter.

yes, my point was a nice steel roof has lasted 53 years with no issues, how will the roof parked next to it stand up to 53 years?? It wont, it will probably have biodegraded to dust by then !

They should have gone for aluminium (weight difference with carbon will be very small). But then they wouldn't have a cool sales-pitch...
Also I still don't get why fiberglass bodypanels are almost extinct now. It weighs basically nothing, it's not strong, but the car has the structural parts to make up for this anyway.

New cars wont last 53 years anyway, it's moot to argue that the carbon roof will be the most problematic thing it happens with this car over years. But that goes with all new cars in my opinion.

it's worth it to remember how cheap the GR Yaris is for what you are getting.
was

They substantially increased the price in most markets while keeping a sticker on the roof.

In the US, the GR Corolla Circuit Edition features a 'forged carbon-fiber roof with UV protection.' This roof is exposed carbon with a clear coat finish at a $45k USD price tag.

US market isn't subject to fleet emission fines etc. etc. I suppose. At least not to the same degree.

I love the look of forged carbon, much more than traditional carbon fibre. Have had two carbon roofs and bits in the past and it was cool but quickly became a bit meh for me after a while. We get the full UV as does @6mt and I have no doubt that the nasty wrap from factory will fail. If it does within warranty then it will go back to the dealer. If not and the forged carbon is decent after the old wrap is pulled then I will get it clear wrapped with a quality product.

I was impressed that the high mass didn't punish the times more, and the drivers reviewed the heaviest car as feeling light. Best cars in their respective category?
I agree with you. While I keep steady my personal preference for a car like the GRY, I'm more and more convinced that the Ioniq 5N is the best BEV car money can buy right now. I trust very much the designers and engineers behind this comlpex project, and they actually made miracles to make "the elephant" really dance.
And the lap-time is there to prove it. But, but... the GRY proved even more than the 5N in my opinion, being the chaser from way behind with respect to power to weight ratio.
When will you have your 5N parked in your garage? Waiting for some direct daily-driving test by yourself! ;)

There are a few in Sweden as well, but I think it more like an advertisement of the new car than really to sell them.
From 54k to 57k eur
