GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I don't think there is a logical reason to believe that the car will be extremely different from the MK1.
There will be improvements, that's for sure.
As I've said before, those improvements won't make a MK2 better than a tuned MK1..
The truth is, it will be better. A little bit better. You can notice it. This much (holding thumb and index finger parallel), obviously depends on your finger length, thickness and hand geometry.

That's the thing.. They've changed just enough to make you consider it.
And I think that's a fair play from them given that they want to sell you a MK2 at a profit.
But a 4000€-5000€ set of coilovers will probably transform a MK1 in such a way that the MK2 can't touch it handling wise.
Then there are the parts that will oftentimes be intercompatible (OEM Style upgrades anyone? ^^) ..
They've raised the price just a little bit too much to make it worth the jump if we're just looking at the Spec sheet.
I'm sure that out of the box it will be better than what we got, I'm not denying that.

There will be a difference but the likelihood of being able to tell the difference unless you have the 8AT and/or on a track is another thing all together.

I give absolut 0 about the Youtubers. Thats all hypers and payed boys.

I'll test it myself, maybe it really is like that. But until then I doubt it.
CarWow is very openly critical against cars. Matt owns a Gen1 GR Yaris. They litteraly changed how the AWD system delivers power (variable distribution in track mode), offcourse you're going to notice the difference...

Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you. Carwow is by far one of the last people on the list that I believe in:).

But everyone has their own opinion.
I for one probably won't notice. My Gen 1 is so modified that a Gen 2 will be a long way behind <---- if it stay in OEM.

I would have to compare both in their original condition. But unfortunately I don't have the privilege that all YouTubers have, to find out how extremely great this and that is by laying my hands on them and spending 10 minutes on a busy country road :).

I need to test drive the mk2 but will find it very difficult to believe the engine will be as sweet as in current mk1. Drive and compare - thats the way to go!

I am actually a little happy about the price, good value for our mk1.
Selfish? Maybe.

And I may have convinced my girlfriend that is was a collectible, exclusive, precious (add more nice stuff) car that would increase in value

I don't think they've changed much in the way of the components involved though so that'd insinuate that's software changes?

No HUD or other convenience pack bits on the MK II? Or are any of those things included in the MK II?

I haven't seen HUD mentioned in any of the material about the MKII. All the shots of the car in the UK press release are of LHD cars too.

Remains to be seen if the "Tech Pack" talked about in the EU materials is included/offered in the UK.

Toyota UK Website: the 2024 allocation of New GR Yaris will be available exclusively through a ballot. Existing GR Yaris customers and those who joined the official UK waiting list prior to it closing in May 2022 will be contacted to enter the draw in May’.

Toyota UK Press Release:
‘The company will be contacting existing GR Yaris owners and those who joined the waiting list for the car before its closure in May 2022. These customers will have the chance to enter a ballot for the opportunity to purchase a new GR Yaris from the UK’s 2024 allocation’.

SOME CLARIFICATION OF THE ABOVE IS REQUIRED:

The UK website states a ballot and a draw, the press release just refers to a ballot. Given that a ballot is ‘a system of voting secretly and in writing on a particular issue’, how will that work?

If it’s a draw which is ‘an act of selecting names randomly to decide winners in a lottery’ that process is regulated in the UK with very specific rules.

Additional questions:

Toyota UK website/Press release:
‘existing GR Yaris owners/customers’

Are these one or all of the following, current first owners, subsequent (second+) owners and/or former owners?

Toyota UK website/Press release: ‘Those who joined the official UK waiting list prior to it closing in May 2022’.

How many people are still waiting now that we are nearly 2 years on from May 2022? And how many of them have given up, moved on, or died since May 2022?

We can only hope that clarification and answers to the above are provided in order to check the process is fair ;)

EVO have finally checked their inbox and question whether £45k is too much.

Double the fun for news outlets / magazines I guess. First the announcement and initial test drives/hype, now the chance for more articles on price. Looking at the wider inflation points others have made, I feel that it’s pretty much in line so not surprising. The shock is how high inflation has been and over such a short timeframe and it’s taking a bit of time mentally (for me at least) to recalibrate prices for things when you think of what something costs. Obviously for food and lower costing things you might not notice until you think of it in say annual figures. But for bigger one off purchases like cars, the absolute value is more noticeable.

That's a softwarechange indeed. But softwarechanges are also noticable when driving.
The chassis is also much stiffer, which you will notice as well (can be good or bad). Just the fact that the driving modes are different (no sport-mode) will make that the car drives significantly different.
