GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I watched an old review the other day that was a vs review - the RS3 and the A45 - they said the GRY was lacking on a track - I'm assuming that's because it has an exceptionally good chassis that is matched to a superbly engineered engine and 4WD system, whereas the other two had rather wonderful engines attached to computers that controlled everything to help the drivers feel excited.
I think that is the thing these days with some car reviews - yes, all of these cars can excite a driver, but what is it about the experience? Is it through the driver's input that he is exciting the car and thus the driver, or is it the car just exciting the driver? I mused that with some modern cars a monkey might drive them and the car would do the exact same thing as if a car reviewer was behind the wheel.
The mk2 has tighter handling whereas the Mk1 was a bit more playful when throwing it around on the limit. Of course this now means the Mk2 will understeer more when pushing which is safer than a car twitching on circuit which of course means it’s now “boring or lacking in excitement” in car reviewer speak. Completely ignoring the fact it will corner like it’s on rails in pretty much any road conditions and outperform anything this side of £50k. The A45 and RS3 are £55-70k cars with over a 100 extra bhp

Most of the time in normal mode (heavier traffic so no point of staying in sport), then for last few kms I have really fun (and most of the time empty) road section so I switched to sport mode and had proper fun. After that I stopped for picking up something for breakfast, this time I had no thump when arrived to parking lot and went into R.
actually it doesn't always do it for me either, today it didn't... unfortunately when it doesn't you don't think about it, you only notice it when it does... today I was expecting it and it didn't arrive... I'll try to notice when I notice it, it's hard to remember to check... you always try to just enjoy it... then unfortunately in life there are other thoughts that distract us... but thanks for confirming that you also feel the thud sometimes... at least I'm calm that I won't have to use the warranty 😂
@Ecsrobin you ever noticed anything?! do you have the right dat8?

I don't trust the reviewers... if I like the car, that's what matters... it's a bit subjective what it gives you…

if I'm not mistaken they mention the brakes, I don't go on the track... but it has brakes as big as my ex evo x... and it weighs 300kg less... in my opinion they brake a lot... maybe it needs the tubes, but I don't think they are bad

Misha hustling a gen2 GRY around the Ring 🥵

In the intro he says the car comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s from the factory. I always thought they came on PS4s, but the one in the video is wearing Cup 2s 🤔

Actually I didn't understand Misha attitude in this review. He says fantastic things about how the car behaves, stating that is almost track-ready even as a factory standard, but at the same time he says it in a very plain and almost dismissive tone, staying silent through the most of the track lap (quite unusual of him).
I usually like his reviews and his enthusiasm about driving on track any kind of car, and I remember how much he loved the Mk1 GRY once it got to the market.
Now in this video he says that the GRYs (both the Mk1 and Mk2) have their typical flaw of being too perfect and then boring...
Maybe he just was in a bad mood that day, I guess.

He's been quite unlucky with the GR Yaris on track, maybe it's left a sour taste in his mouth?

Misha did a whole series on the Gen 1 GR Yaris a few years back where they modded the hell out of it and tracked it constantly. That experience clearly left a sour taste in his mouth. No shock there; they ran into all sorts of issues. The problem is, people keep buying these cars thinking they’re track-ready just because Toyota’s marketing made it sound that way. Truth is, no street car is built to survive proper track abuse lap after lap, not even a Porsche GT3.

IMO Misha’s expectations were way off, and he’s never given the car a single compliment since. I think he secretly hates it. It’s like he resents the fact that it’s not 2WD. And don’t even get me started on the seat height, he’s been whining about it for years. I swear he’s brought it up at least two dozen times. Now he’s claiming the Gen 2 still sits too high. At this point, it’s just nonsense.

I don't think he's being that negative. He's driven several over the past year and been genuinely positive. It just seemed like he had a really bad day in this particular video. Maybe something to do with him just announcing he is no longer going to do laps with passengers.

Also, the GRY is very common on the Nurburgring, you see a lot of them there, and maybe he's just a bit tired of everyone raving about them?

Misha needs ignoring tbh. Only has a name because people would lend him cars. Something I think you'd be insane to do.

It's the only part that irks me a bit, he took a privately owned car on track without really looking at it, he can have a negative opinion of course, but in this case he didn't really say anything relevant, it would have been more interesting if he took a quick look at what Toyota improved on paper and gave his opinion on whether it's noticeable or not on this particular track, at the end he just lapped the car and said "yup, it's a GR Yaris alright".

It's from the Service Manual section called "New Car Features". It might also be in the User Manual, but I don't recall for sure.
You can purchase a subscription to the Service Manual here: https://www.toyota-tech.eu
hi, i understand that you have a subscription... can you tell me where the liquid temperature sensor is? because even today i turned off the car, after 3 minutes i turned on the dashboard and it showed 111 degrees... in my opinion is it too much or not?!

I think it's supposed to be that way. Once the car is turned off after a drive there's residual heat in the engine that is being transferred in the coolant which is not circulating anymore, so the coolant gets hotter for a short while.

My coolant temp once pinged to almost maximum after hot track day session. Got scared and have been idling or cooling down much more afterwards.
