GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Anyone know why Toyota are throttling the production of this car? I’ve read that it’s co2 emissions related but surely that has nothing to do with it, when you have the likes of Mercedes/BMW producing V6 or V8 guzzlers. Why is the worlds largest car manufacturer struggling to keep emissions in check when most of its lineup is hybrid?

While I’m here, anyone looked at buying an MK2 from Japan and importing it over? Dont know how difficult it would be but there surely might be a company that can sort it all out. Looking at the Japanese configurator the mk2 comes in at around 28k (or 33k is with all options ticked including body kit). Do they limit numbers in Japan as well?
Production is limited compared to the mk1 due to the Corolla being made on the same line we saw this near the end of the mk1 production where it slowed to a snails pace as Corolla production increased.

There is of course the emissions issue and each year from now the fine gets bigger if you’re not complying. Toyota despite being one of the first to offer hybrid technology has been slow to go full electric so they get penalised for it.

So a mixture of a couple of things limiting supply.

Have you seen the production process? There are very few robots involved in creating the GR Yaris, which means it just takes long to build.
Also, funny that you take Mercedes and BMW as examples. They both released a hybrid version for their latest M/AMG. 39gr CO2 for the M5 ...

I managed to view and sit in the new one today at Jemca Toyota Bracknell, it was in the metallic grey and the car looks better in person than the photos or videos, the dash isn’t too bad either. Still no heated seats or steering wheel for the uk though 😔

No need for either of them if you’re in the south especially on a day like today ;)

Funny, Toyota Germany seems to have plenty left…

After the initial Toyota email of the ballot results, have many people been contacted that missed out on the first round of results? I am just trying to gauge if it's worth waiting for a MK2 allocation slot or just give up and start looking for something else.... (UK based).

There’s been a few people on Facebook / Pistonheads that have mentioned getting a late slot. I suspect a few more will drop out when it comes to delivery but numbers are still low so odds aren’t great.

If it’s looking for a Yaris down to around 80 for sale on autotrader when previously they’ve been as high as 200.

Price for the Golf GTI are known. The Clubsport (which comes close to the GR Yaris performance) also costs 50k€.
All of a sudden the Yaris price doesn't sound that bad.

L'argus with Mathieu Sentis released their vid (and written review in French) of the Autobox version.

Pretty epic peddeling when entering the downhill hairpin @3:22...

Written review (use tranlate if necessary):

What a drive! And laptime looks quite good as well, even if not registered, maybe below 8 minutes?
I like a cleaner driving style, but the car looks like a glove in the hands of the driver like I rarely saw on this circuit.
Great video indeed, thank you @Onehp !

car looks to go quite effortlessly on track - very nice video. mk2 is not a bad option if driving a lot on track.
also the engine sounds it is more in comfort zone btw 6-7krpm, whereas with mk1 the sweetspot is maybe 5.5-6.5krpm.

I don't understand what he means with adjustable piped in noise. It's adjustable, but only with manual gearbox? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe the google translate is not very good.

Didn't test google myself, however it does say that in French - the manual you can choose the level of fake noise, the auto has none of it and doesn't sound too great in his opinion. I.e. aftermarket exhaust manufacturers are still in business ;)

I understood that with the auto, the car is a bit more noisy than the manual (maybe revving more in average), and Toyota decided to suppress noise enhancement in the auto cars, then.

I actually cant find any info in the mk2 manual about ESE at all, ANC is mentioned in a small paragraph, with an asterisk if installed. three levels of modifying. And can turn off as well.
