Production is limited compared to the mk1 due to the Corolla being made on the same line we saw this near the end of the mk1 production where it slowed to a snails pace as Corolla production increased.Anyone know why Toyota are throttling the production of this car? I’ve read that it’s co2 emissions related but surely that has nothing to do with it, when you have the likes of Mercedes/BMW producing V6 or V8 guzzlers. Why is the worlds largest car manufacturer struggling to keep emissions in check when most of its lineup is hybrid?
While I’m here, anyone looked at buying an MK2 from Japan and importing it over? Dont know how difficult it would be but there surely might be a company that can sort it all out. Looking at the Japanese configurator the mk2 comes in at around 28k (or 33k is with all options ticked including body kit). Do they limit numbers in Japan as well?
There is of course the emissions issue and each year from now the fine gets bigger if you’re not complying. Toyota despite being one of the first to offer hybrid technology has been slow to go full electric so they get penalised for it.
So a mixture of a couple of things limiting supply.
