As Mk2 is to be launched, it is to be seen what happens with mk1 valuation.
I have gut feeling it will not drop as much as typically values drop after new version launch.
Reasons being
- first homologation model and the story for WRC
- more mechanical, less electrical driving nannies (i.e. more of drivers car)
- mk2 works for the press, but IRL difference is likely very small.

In general it will be interesting to see where the mk1 valuation will go - for those that are pristine and with only few miles, and also with ones that have maybe lots of mileage.

As WRC rally specials (Ogier and Kalle editions) will more or less be collector items and likely quite steeply priced, they will not affect current pricing at least negatively, maybe they could bump the generic value in terms of marketing effect. In addition if mk2 selling price is higher, it will bump the mk1 baseline price up abit.

Fun to see how much mk2 will sell but my gut feeling is that boat has sailed for the big sales demand in one regard, current financial situation is not easy and most of the folks are getting hybrids/electric cars. I will assume production volume of mk2 will be significantly less than what mk1 was.

I will be interested in that too !

I see the GR Yaris just like the Mitsubishi Evo's. It will depreciate in value, but never as much as a "normal" car. But the value will increase again over time :).

I paid €32k for my brand new Evo 8 in 2004 with extreme discounts. List price was 42k€.

I didn't sell the car at the time, but traded it in for a Skyline GTR. But I know that after two years it was worth around €30k.

Today the car in top condition would easily be worth €60k... I would say not bad for a 20 year old Mitsubishi :).

Whether MK1 or MK2 is actually not that important when you think about loss of value. Unless the market actually takes things like Homolo and Nanny bullshit into account..... I do, but I'm not the market :).

I wish I'd kept my 205 GTi. And my Clio Trophy. And my DC-2 Integra Type-R. And my Lotus Elan Sprint. In fact I've never owned a car that isn't worth more now than when I bought it, or when new in most cases.

Very difficult to predict the GR Yaris residuals as they made so many of them. But the way I see it is it's the last purely petrol powered homologation car the world will ever see. Just as the very last petrol 911 GT3 will be worth stupid money in the future, I think this fact will help keep interest high when everyone becomes totally bored of their self-driving performance milkfloats.

I agree for sure and make parallells with the Lancer EVO VI, which in my eyes were the OG of the Lancer era.

And as said, this was the Homologation product for WRC and it comes with a drivers focus and pretty analoge. MK2 will definitely attract other buyers, maybe those who neglected the OG because of its basic style and less electronics. will that make a difference in value for the two ?

By talking to people who are interested in the GR Yaris and people who used to own one you get an interesting view of how the car is received very differently.
-In a situation where I would speak for the OG with its background and basics, its will keep its value high - someone else, (like one I meet) traded the GR Yaris for a Tesla since it had double the amount of HP, would not treat the OG as high value when there is something newer with more "functionality".

Around here it seems Toyota is expecting increased sales on the MK2, never the less I believe the OG will keep it's value pretty well

btw Jonne Halttunen stated in one recent drifting podcast that he is ordering the new 'Kalle' model. It will likely end up as a collector item in many garages, and maybe not as a driving tool as such. Same story as with GRMN Yaris?

As I've said before, we own the last homologation Rally car, powered by a combustion engine . So long term we have a good investment if we live long enough to see it

I'm on the same boat, my 968 "CS" would now be worth double the money what I sold it for, but then again would have missed few nice adventures if not sold so it is always tricky case. But good rule of thumb is not to sell anything good.

I think MK1 prices will drop, not massively. Everyone wants the latest and there will be a huge demand for the MK2. I think in 5-10 years. prices for a MK1 will start to creep up again as nostalgia creeps in for people who follow the now WRC. Just like me lusting for an Audi SWB Quattro or 205 T16 from the Group B days but financially unattainable.

I never plan on selling mine so this is all irrelevant. I sold so many cars in the past that are now worth a fortune (Renault 5 turbo, 205 gtis and many other 80s Hot hatches.) My GRY will be kept for my now 4 year old son to do with it what he pleases. when he is old enough to drive. If petrol or the world still exists in 2037! But in the mean time it will be used for his Kindergarten/School runs along with some spirited rural driving for me.

Not Everyone.
You always have to be careful. Many people think (apart from the marketing nonsense) that the new one is always better. But very, very often this is not the case. Good shouldn't affect the GR at the moment, the changes are too marginal.

But let's take the Evo again. The X was a turd compared to the IX. Yes, the X had a new engine and it was really better than its predecessors. But um... the engines before that were also great and only very few of them inflated them to the limit of performance. It's not as if the engines suddenly went bad just because the new one was "better". As I said, very few people have put in so much money to get the full potential out of it.

But with the newest one, the Xer, so much else just sucked. The weight gain alone bothered me so much. Still annoys me today :). Yes, I also had an Xer, for me it was no longer a real Evo. Just the stupid bass speaker in the trunk... original from RockfordFosgate. Tossed the thing as far as I could in the garage on delivery day🤣.
I suddenly had a crappy multimedia display in my car the size of a TV in the 90s. The 8 Series had a hole in the dashboard, there wasn't even a radio as standard :). What happened? A rally car became a multimedia bullshit family transporter. Many people liked this, but I will never understand it. Hell buy a BMW 5 series if you want these things😛😅.

There were 10 models (and a few special models). But I still prefer the VI and the IV. So not the newest one :).

The same thing is happening now with the GR. Thank God, you managed to keep the weight off.

Nevertheless, now there is such crap like digital speedometer and steering wheel sensitivity and accelerator pedal feel nonsense settings. Get in and Baaaam.

When I always see these videos of the "sports cars"... here you have to go into the menu and press Sport, then here on Super Sport, steering wheel on + 5 and accelerator pedal on lion or tiger and here if you have still played through Super Mario, u have 500 instead of 400 hp (then M5 BMW). Or better, the Launch Control. Pls press this Button, hold the left pedal, then the right pedal, now press the brake, accelerate, wait a moment, give your passenger a Kiss and let go. But remember, if you do this your guarantee is in the campfire. Delicious nonsense, but it appeals to people.

SORRY Guys, but it hurts me so much in so many different ways😅.

<---- Old Dinosaur🙋🏻‍♂️. Dont play it, Drive it!

Having the same use case here 👌

It sounds like there is rumour of a price announced on the German GR group (which I am not a part of), but would correspond to a price of circa £45k for the updated car in the UK. Now that would have the opposite affect on values.

If these costs are true, we are on to a winner. Lowering the driver seat and reducing the height of the rear view mirror doesn't cost £10,000.

Don't think so, those euro prices are sub 40k£ equivalence, cannot just use todays exchange rate...
