GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

Installed Focals, 2 sheets of dodo deadening in each door today. Happy with the result although may still add a spare wheel sub.

Warning to anyone planning on doing this, don't put the tweeter near anything metal - the magnet attracted a screwdriver I put next to it and pierced the dome 🤦‍♂️. I now have to work out how to buy one tweeter which as far as I can tell is only available as part of the kit...

Disconnected the ASC while I was at it, I agree the real engine noise is much better even if it's quieter!

I fitted the Focals today. No soundproofing yet, will wait until the weather warms up for that.
Just to say, these were the easiest install I've ever done on a car. Usually I'm increasing hole sizes, checking clearances, adding wiring etc. None of that, just fit and plug in. Even the door cards came off, no broken clips, thanks to the tips above. Brilliant.

Sound wise, on the limited testing so far, there was an immediate and noticeable improvement.
I wasn't blown away but the sound is now enjoyable, standard it was tiresome and grating. (I have Focal K2's in my other car)
Well worth £150 as an easy fix or a first step. (y)

Next job sound deadening and some decent speakers in the back. :)

Lol!

Can’t see them having a queue of GR customers at those prices. You’d really need to spend a lot of time, do a lot of miles, to justify that.
They need to do a group buy discount or something. Like you say, it's a lot of money when keeping the same head unit. And replacing the head unit - ouch.

I had similar door soundproofing work done to my 993 when I had new audio installed a few years ago at Enigma audio in West London.

It was only done to provide better sound quality but it did make a surprising improvement to road noise as well.

I had a quote to do the same on my GR86 (which has more road noise to start with) but I decided to save the money and fit the Focal kit myself instead. I'm more than happy with the results.

£700 odds for basically a Focal kit equivalent (albeit better quality) and some sound deadening that we do anyway? Blimey, I'm in the wrong trade.

on the focal. there seems to be 2 different styles..

the one posted on here already and this type:

anyone know the diff?

That is the 2 way type, with tweeters in the middle. The one to suit the 86 has tweeters separate, to go in the dash.
thanks! . note to self. dont try and be a cheapskate and find one on ebay for £120, thinking it'll be reet.

Just got my GR86 and looking for ways to improve my 6-speaker audio.
The Focal / Puzu combination looks quite promising and is plug&play, exactly what I want!

A question for the Puzu PZ-C7 owners: Do you get audio in accessory mode? The reason I’m asking, beat-sonic states that their amp only works in ignition mode, due to CAN bus issues with the GR86.

Thank you!

The puzu works when the head unit is on as it takes power from the same source.

Perfect, thank you!
With my Puzu PZ C7, I only get sound when the ignition is on. In accessory mode, I get no sound. I am using the supplied cable. Discovered it last weekend when demoing the amp and speakers to another GR86 owner.

So when you park up, and ignition off, does the audio immediately stop? In mine, and I assumed all, the headunit, puzu and AA dongle keep running until you open the door or after a couple of minutes.
