GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

For anyone that's contemplating buying the Focals, a shop on ebay has them for £135.20 with a 20% discount code (SPOOKY20) until tomorrow:

Picked these up, and fitted today. What a big difference

A few weeks on, how are you getting on with the focal amplifier? Are you happy with it? Did you wire straight from the battery? It's got some decent heft, has the crossovers but no dsp.
It's great, would recommend.
The harness adapter has live and ground so no need to wire anything direct to battery.

Now I've had the car for a little while I'm definitely going to change the speakers soon, but I've had Focal's in a couple of cars and have been a little underwhelmed with them, so thought I might try something else.

Has anyone fitted 'standard' component speakers to a GR86 (or GT86 as I assume they're the same)? I can get an adapter for the bass driver, but not for the tweeter, so I'm wondering how that will go - my hot glue gun is probably going to get a run out!

I might still get the Puzu DSP amp too, not sure yet. I've been recommended these speakers: https://musway.de/english/ml6.2c.html and will be putting some sound deadening in the doors to start with.

Get the focal kit. It's awesome. And easy to fit.

I would say the puzu is optional part. Depends how loud you like it I guess.
Yeah, it seemed like a good deal too, so I've ordered it. The Puzu C7 is supposed to be under £100 tomorrow so I might still do it, for the DSP settings as much as a volume lift. A dull schlep along the A14 / M6 yesterday persuaded me that it needs changing asap, it's just so tiring to listen to at any sort of volume, which you need on noisy roads.

I have both and I added sound deadening to the doors and 3/4 panels. Has made a big difference to my daily commute.

I adjusted my PUZU volume (gain) down recently, and it sounds much better. Partly because with it turned up, the noise gate has a larger effect, so with the gate on 3 it was filtering out elements of the music eg during a quiet song / intro. When the gain was turned down (-30??) and the noise gate the same, it filters just the white noise, more or less and I think just sounds better. I do wonder what the amp is doing if I have to turn it down (and turn up the head unit) to get a good sound. BTW, I don't know anything about car audio, and to notice the issue above I was sat in the drive with the engine off as nothing can compete with the road noise in a GR86.

Hi, I've not seen or heard of Power Bass speakers before. They look remarkably similar to the custom fit Focals, but the spec is different, lower sensitivity and the materials are different.
In the USA Power Bass are around $130 and Focals $300+, a significant price difference.
The UK the price difference is only around £25, so for that I'll be playing it safe and going with the known quality of Focals.
I've had Focal K2 and PC speakers in another car for 6 years, no issues.

Roger that, did compare the spec and noticed the sensitive is down compared to the Focals. Apparently the PB’s a bit more reinforced in the base department with a little less up top.

I decided to take the easy option (hopefully) and get the Focal kit, and look what arrived today.....

Thanks to @TheRealMyodo @Dal3D and @ninjin for the help on this thread, I now have the Focal speakers, sound deadening and Puzu amp installed and have loaded an excellent DSP profile that sounds great.

My neighbours think I'm insane for sitting on my driveway with the engine running and tunes blaring, but who cares?!?

I have a 350 mile round trip on motorways on Friday so at least I now have some good sounds for the boring bit.
