GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

Let me answer all the questions in one reply:

1. The PUZU is plug and play., same as the beat-sonic but with EQ/Parametric capabilities. Even converts to low level out high level input.

2. It only rattles if you spank it, same as before. However, the SQ is much much improved because you can equalise it to 'your' preference. So at normal volumes the SQ is much better.

3. The Focals need more power, the stock HU doesn't have enough grunt. I've even turned the gain on the PUZU down to like 30%!

4. Here is a link for accessing the HU:

So as a summary, with the PUZU all reset to flat, thre Focal sound better, more controlled. Then I used the puzu to isolate the rears to see what they actually were playing, not a lot, just highs.

So I did a quick setup to my ears ( not to a spectrum analyser with white noise, good for a base line setup but only if you have the full spectrum, i.e. a sub too) with the EQ, quietened the rears (left some volume for rear fill) and did some sound delay.

All in all very happy with the 2hrs work in total. I always end up tweaking the sound settings once I get more seat time but even with this little time on it, it's night and day difference. I think the most important thing is to be able to tweak the sound to your liking and overcome the factory HU EQ settings that is set to match the factory speakers. (I'm talking un-adjustable base sound output from the HU not the treble/Mid/Bass adjustment.) I found that even with the Focals the highs were to rich for me (shrill even) and the PUZU has let me dial it down to my liking.

This is now my 4th PUZU and unless my next car comes with audio upgraded from factory (Bose, Burmeister etc etc) it won't be the last. Come to think of it, I still got to do the Mrs Cupra Born.

Awesome. Thanks for this. I know what I'm doing next 👍

Fitted the PUZU C7 today and wow.... Those Focals work well! If you've spent the £150 on the Focals, you must spend the extra £100 on the Puzu DSP. Can't really share the sound imrovement on here but take my word for it, if you've got the Focals, it's a no brainer.

The sound is night and day different and the Focals get the power they deserve to get them moving. Now how to stop all the newly discovered rattles!

Just enough room to stick it in with double sided on top of the glovebox, below the air bag.

AND.... The Screen is definitely angled towards the left of the car. Many say it isn't but after spending a couple of hours in the passenger seat, you can blatantly see it is. As its angled slightly to the left, the screen is much clearer and has less reflection than when looking from the right. It's not a lot, maybe 5deg but enough to notice a difference in clarity.
Nice job!
I wonder if the head unit screen is slightly angled to the left, whether there's a way to wedge it slightly, so it sits more facing the right??

Ah yes, the car. I'm breaking the world record for number of things ordered for a car I don't own.
nah... that would have been me. I had a pile of stuff to install, purchase whilst the car was on order.

nah, cant be done as the surrounding panels wont line up.

TBH, I think this would be worth fitting even before the Focals. In my Seat Tarraco I run a PUZU C11 (more channels on DSP but mainly got dedicated sub-out) and a rockford slimline sub. Speakers are all factory. Sounds amazing.

These DSP's are the way forward for bang for buck.

And no, before anyone asks, I ain't on commission from PUZU ;)

Do you have a link for where to buy the Puzu C7? Just out of interest, of course...

Are you absolutely sure about your unit being angled? This has been bugging me as I swear mine isn't. I've just been and sat in the car and checked it using a combination square, and the fascia on mine is absolutely parallel to the dash vents. The screen itself is also parallel to the fascia, and moving from one side to the other, I can't see any difference whatsoever in how the screen looks. I'll check again in daylight, but I just can't see it.

I spent a couple of hours in the passenger seat and the first thing I noticed was the clearer screen. Yes, the screen is all square with the vents above but I think the whole centre is slightly biased to the left. I'll dig out the laser level tmrw and confirm for sure.

Go on, how many things did you buy before the car?
ok. These are what I bought after TGB confirmed my order and prior to taking delivery.

LED Bulbs for reverse and interior. Car Key covers. Folding mirror module. Screen protector, dials protector, passenger side tray (2 types), door handle surrounds, vent surrounds, electric window switch surrounds, tyre valve covers, Brembos, Tein Coilover, duck tail wing, front spoiler, dashcam, GT3 Front brake vents, carbon exhaust tips, Beatrush Rear tower bar, Cusco Front tower bar.

I think that's it....

Recently bought wheels, Steering wheel and Endless Brake pads, heading over from Japan.

Price has gone up since I bought it. Still a bargain for the results obtained.

If you buy, tell them you need Harness #7, old toyota style. They originally sent me the newer toyota harness but our 86s use the old style harness.

So no rubber boot matt, no K&N air filter, no Android Auto wireless device, no boot closing strap. Not even a nice bit of laser cut artwork?

But that's an impressive list and has me well beat 😁

Out the bits you've ordered, what would you most recommend for others? (sorry this is OT)

Oh, I did get a boot mat... told you I thought that was it...! Boot strap I DIY'd.

I got the carlinkit after I got the car , same as the phone holder as I had to see how much room I had to play with.

Accessories is all personal, so just buy what you like!
