GR86 Exhausts

Anyone taken the plunge yet installing a different exhaust?

Also worth checking out the Gen.2 Borla S-Type, sounds perfect in my opinion.

Sorry couldn't resist, Borla has been ruined for me

I've decided to wait 'til I've run mine in to change the exhaust just to see what it sounds like at full chat, still aiming for the HKS V2 single

I’ve got an Invidia Q300 waiting to go on sometime in January, will post pics and videos when fitted.

Won’t be the loudest but I’m just after something which gives the car a little bit of character as the std set up is too quiet for such a sporty looking car.

I have the Milltek resonated exhaust arriving in two weeks, definitely needs a bit more volume but don't want to be too anti social.

On the 86 I went non res milltek plus secondary cat delete - but that was very loud on startup and the tone wasn't quite right.

Has anyone heard the Milltek in person for the GR86?

I just received mine, will be installing the non resonated midpipe hopefully this week. Will post vids.

Looking forward to a comparison video if you're able to make one! Think it might be the first for a GR86 with the GPF?

If you're able, please try and get videos while the car is under load on the move, and from the interior too. Too many exhaust vids are just the car being revved hard while sitting stationary and I don't think they ever do the sound any justice.

Won’t that flag up a go slow with the engine management?

There's a Swedish guy on FB who installed both resonated and non resonated, short rev videos here: www.gr86.se

I just made the "pre exhaust swap" movies. You can literally hear a bicycle's rattle louder than my car passing by at 5K rpm almost WOT. Mic of my camera is s**** though probably.. wanted to disconnect the ASC as well but seems I need a flathead. I guess I don't need a "pre" interior movie, you hardly hear it without ASC anyway.

Edit: sound quality turned out pretty okay. Made a video with and without ASC as well for the comparison compilation.

Would a central resonator delete on the standard factory system be a viable option??

I am swaying to going non resonated now - does anyone know the dB figures for it?

I am not going to do any more mods to the exhaust system so thinking non res might be the way forward.

I did that on my B48 120i, the result was amazing. Nice deep sound and burbles, unbelievable it was a stock exhaust. I'd get in touch with someone who's got experience though, not sure the resonator delete was all they did on mine.

Centre res delete was common on Mégane RS if you wanted a little more noise from the exhaust

I don't think you will get the same results, both those cars are turbocharged so tend to sound different, on the previous generation the only resonator that was deleted was the rear box.

Please be mindful that if the Milltek is the same exhaust they fitted to the GT and I have no reason to suspect the GR is different. I know that the prototype Cobra exhaust based on the GT86 bolted straight up. The Milltek has a bad reputation for cracking as the welding seems to be so poor where the main pipe goes into the rear silencer. I went through four of them. The last one had the revised flexi on it but still cracked. I loved how it sounded, at least until it cracked after 20K miles or so. This is why RRG Macc' won't stock Milltek.
