GR86 Exhausts

Are there any more thoughts on exhausts now those who've had them fitted have done a few more miles? I'm interested in one that sounds good without -being overly loud. A Cobra one is probably favourite at the moment.
I've got the HKS Spec L 2, had it for a couple of years now. Happy with it, no drone, beautifully made exhaust, adds a deeper tone, but quite subtle.

I sometimes ponder if I could do with something just a tad louder, and would like to hear a C-TEC in person, just to see if it's worth changing to one as it gets such praise on here, but other than that I'm happy with it.

Am happy with my C-TEC too. It's done some more running and seems to be improving every run. Even had mates following it comment how good it sounds and it pops on downshifts still too.

More than happy to meet up if you want, we are so close to each other. I wouldn't mind hearing your infinity intake too.

Yes, we should do that. I remember we talked about meeting at The Stag place down near Challock, and we had some others who might be interested. I am just crap at organising.

I think @La3195 actually has the CTEC and the Infinity so he'd be an even better reference for you, but don't know if he's local.

Rocking a Borla S Type imported from the US, for a different varietal. It's brilliant, no drone and loud/throaty enough when it needs to be. Imported via Nemesis UK who were very forthcoming with updates and lead time.

Indeed I have both. I'm in the Midlands but will be down brooklands for the event on 7th if that's of any use.

I actually ordered the Apex'i then chickened out as I was worried it would be too quiet, so with peer presure from the other half went for the "louder" HKS Spec L.

It sounds pretty good, but there isa slight resonance at dead on 3k. I have the STI hangers to see if they alter this then it will be perfect for my needs.

I've had it for about 5,000 miles now, no issues with trackday noise limits. its pretty smooth most of the time, very deep - the microphones never really do it justice.

That's what I like about the Milltek. The right balance of theatre and occasion without resonance or being asbo.

Not sure if any of you are considering an aftermarket manifold in future, to get the subie UEL rumble for example. Would just keep in mind if you are, the volume increases dramatically (for decat manifolds mainly) so any exhausts you think are a touch quiet now might be spot on later 👌

I hate how quickly time has flown, but I'm now starting to think about the car's first MOT coming up in December.

Anyone know if the Remark will cause a MOT failure with it's lack of muffler?

Hope not as my first MOT is due January as well. That’ll speed up my exhaust shopping if it does cause a failure!

The spec L is the top of my shopping list when the mods start, likely paired with their GT EL catted manifold.

Microphones and in honesty the speakers on whatever device you’re watching on never really give a perfect representation it’s true. It’s also a challenge finding and footage of EU cars with the GPF, plenty of Americans with various combinations posting on YT but few and far between for EU cars.

This is very true. I did a video (phone camera / mic) comparing my car with the AWE touring before and after manifold & tune.

It made it significantly louder, but with the UEL it's a deeper noise.

Thankfully, although it's loud, the zero-drone from the AWE is still the same with the manifolds installed, so although it is loud, it is possible (just) to rumble along without too much noise and there is never any horrible resonance noise in the cabin.

Be sure to look in the description for the time stamps to each part

Reading online, it seems like it’s really down to the tester you get…
Oh bugger. My tester is relatively friendly, but also by the book. Have to see what happens. Will get it tested as early as possible to give me time to shop around if it does indeed fail.

Once it's warm I can't see the C-TEC flagging for noise. MOT will be at Toyota for me so will be interesting. On bikes the tester normally just advises if the exhaust is noisy but they are bikers themselves so they aren't that tough on them.
