GR86 Exhausts

Given that our cars have a gpf and 2nd cat on the front pipe, I reckon the awe touring exhaust might be actually quite good for our euro cars, given how good the gpf is at dampening decibels!
Unfortunately it seems AWE won't be an option for UK cars anyway though...
Really liked the sound of the AWE exhaust. Messaged the UK supplier and this was their response :(

I don't believe AWE, the US spec exhaust from the front pipe back is identical in part number, which is what awe replace, doesn't make sense to have different mounting points on eu cars, will just drive unnecessary cost on toyotas side.

Heard that our GR86 in Europe has less power than JDM GR86 because of the GPF and it doesn't have any solution to decode yet if it is removed.
should be wrong because at least in all dach region sites it is stated with 235hp. Thats the same like in the US and Japan as far as i know.

It may be, that the US version has more power than 235PS, so EU cars can indeed be weaker...

btw: its 235PS not 235HP.
Its 228HP
and 231BHP

I have explained in somewhere else in the forum but worth to stick it here as well.

Here is the story:
JDM GR86 and a Exported Spec BRZ were put on dyno in Hong Kong which BRZ are fitted with GPF. Both of them are completely stock. The result showed that BRZ has less WHP than JDM spec.
I believe the spec of that BRZ is same as UK spec which also fitted with GPF.

Example size of two is too less, to produce a clear result.
What were the exact numbers?
How do they compare to other measures?

10ish BHP.

I wont disregard this test result due to the example size imo and it makes sense that GPF do reduce the power output. There is also a extra sensor on the frontpipe.

Source of the test ? Is there any link to see this ? Would like to check it out :)

good luck trying to rund this legally. In germany we can't even this about it without an ECE certificate ,ABE or german TÜV :p

@cnan34 Do you have to have your car checked every year in Germany by a Government Agency to make sure it’s road worthy? , something similar to the MOT test in the U.K.?

Different rules here. So long as you don't remove any of the 'emissions control' systems the exhaust is effectively 'free'. Technically you're not allowed to modify to make it louder than standard but the wording is sufficiently wooly that so long as it's not stupidly loud you're fine. There's no 'TUV approval' equivalent.

every two years normally. If you car looks modified (lower, louder, visually noticable) you get it checked by police for papers every couple days in some areas :D

You can drive around in the U.K. with no cat , no GPF and an Exhaust made from old scaffolding poles and the police won’t bother you , slip a mate at an MOT station £10 for a couple of 🍺🍺 and you’re ok for another year 👍😂😂😂
