GR86 EVO car of the year

I don't care how good that maserati is to drive, I couldn't listen to those stones hitting the carbon tub all day. Drive me insane!
 
Fantastic summary.. I know some of those roads, not well though, they really do test a car.

Would it be a different result if the Lotus Emira had been there?
 
Great video. But I kind of felt like they spent more time heaping praise on thr GR. Then at the end, just said "oh, but the MC20 wins". Maybe I'm so biased, I only had ears for the GR86 talk.
 
Very refreshing vid in times of easy click dragraces and laptimes videos, and even those are better then all too many 'interior car reviews' (=cars that win test outright because they have the nicest interior or infotainment whatever).

Proper road reviews are getting very rare. Also loved the weighing session, so telling.

We're very fortunate to be able to drive GR cars on GReat roads, enjoy while it lasts....
 
I feel proud that our little car ended up on the podium amongst mid engined supercars costing an order of magnitude more! Richard Meaden was bang on about the car feeling fast at reasonable speeds; I'm often surprised when driving mine that I'm barely doing the speed limit! There is a tautness and precision about the car that is really magical....
 
Yes the little GR86 did very well, fantastic to see - as mentioned the weigh bridge figures were quite revealing!

Ferrari has been doing the dry weight+all lightweight options scam for too long now, most of their cars are a good big heavier then most people think...

It’s a bit weird because EVOs sister company autoexpress tested the same 8 cars and decided the GR86 was the best car. The autoexpress article was written by Steve Sutcliffe who sums up with “The GR86 really is some car. It is without question our superstar sports car if 2022”.

However on the EVO test it was Steve Sutcliffe who gave the GR the lowest mark of all six judges putting it behind the mc20, 296 and Altura? Maybe he regretted his decision, but if he’d changed his order it would have won the EVO test too.

I noticed the difference in the order on those two write-ups as well. Different reader audience perhaps - AutoExpress being more mainstream?
 
Makes a mockery of the whole thing don’t you think? It shouldn’t really matter who is reading it, just highlights their priority is selling more magazines over delivering a truthful verdict.
 
This is why I'm waiting for Shmee to buy one and give his thoughts then crash it doing donuts at a Gumball in South America then sell it to Matt Armstrong who will do 6 videos on how hard it was to source parts for it. Once it is fixed Mrbeast will give it away to a subscriber who can fit the most M&M's in their mouth.

Maybe Steve changed his mind later in his own article. He is allowed?

It has happened to me, change my mind that is, not the own article thing.
