Just a heads up, some of us have E85 easily available at the pumps (France, Australia, Switserland? , all(?) Scandinavia) and have already tested E30 blends with success, will be looking to up this ratio and see what happens (stock tune) with proper logging.

The lambda O2 sensor automatically adjusts for more fuel as blends goes up, question is how far do the fuel trims adjust before hitting a ceiling... Same thing as what happens when running a tuning box, ECU doesn't see more boost but ups the fuelling as lambda goes up.

Obviously, if anyone already has done this, please share findings ๐Ÿ‘

I don't think that the injectors will be big enough... is roughly a 3x in fuel vs E10.... I think that will be too much :(

We'll see. Certain box tuners claim E30 and 0,6 bar more boost without change in fuel signal, which should suffice for E85 on stock boost. If so it would be pretty unique, I agree.

Currently logging a E27 tank, content verified by actually seperating the fuels.

Anyhow, on boost, there is plenty of room for higher E in the fuel trims, trims are hardly raised. However, keeping an eye live when pootling around, off boost when the engines rises in revs from tickover, there is big peak in stft almost maxing out and at the same time AFR takes a dive to below 13.

Any experts here that know why it does this, otherwise the ECU seems to aim for high 14's always pootling around and moderate stft's, with this exception. Would be a shame if this limits higher blends...

PS: it does the same on E10 so maybe can just ignore it and try higher

Edit: could it be port injection doing their cleaning squirt?

Very interesting.. I like this idea. I wonder what happened to flexfuel cars anyway? I thought it was going to be a big thing. Interested to hear the results of your testing.

Stock car, E45

1st 3rd gear pull, only small correction red => purple, otherwise stable stft and ltft and AFR.

If fuel trim has its ceiling at around 20 (?), E45 is more or less the practical limit. Not going to push, because:
- I can't measure a performance benefit going higher E content, other then that EGT should be a bit lower.
- Timing advance doesn't improve with higher E content, inconclusive (as not testing more) but E30 seemed a tiny bit better then E45
- E30 should be more robust for knock. Especially in hotter conditions (it's cold here now) it should prevent timing pull and should have some effect keeping actual intake temps lower (hard to measure). Like an IC it might be more about retaining performance than increasing it, although if upping boost it should be beneficial. Even so, stock car still benefits from an upgraded IC imo as IAT temps rise 15-20 degrees on a single 3rd gear pull in near freezing temps on E30...

Especially if this graph is correct (as posted by Grinder on old forum, have asked for reference), E30 is ideal for LSPI.

And going higher isn't good. Only used like five litres E45 for testing and going back to E30.

If adding boost with a box and using E30, I would want to keep an eye on fuel trims and AFR....

To really benefit of higher E blends, its full monty with Syvecs/Motec and larger port injectors that are the (expensive) way forward.

For me E30 is basically free and a good way to make performance more robust.

Oh, our OEM spec API SP oil is suitable for ethanol.

Did a flex tune on my car with E60-E80 flex fuel tune
With bigger port injector at Dyno , and flex fuel sensor
it work flawlessly at mainline Dyno
But I had fuel psi drop at last 2 corner at my home course
Turn my car to limp mode , so stock low pressure pump canโ€™t flow high enough at circuits condion

I'll quickly chime in

I run 33L of 98RON with 17L of E85 (Guaranteed 85%) - aka E30 Mix as well
Fuel Consumption is now averaging at around 11L/100kms but I am the current lead champion of the traffic light grand prix, so not reflective of normal driving habbits

One thing I noticed is that when my Yaris insists that I should be using the 5th gear when I am doing 60km/h, it feels much better than what it did before

Acceleration much more consistent and Knock Feedback is above 24 at WOT

Hi everyone,

I've been reading through this thread and noticed that the last comments about using ethanol blends like E30 were over a year ago. I wanted to check in to see if anyone has had more recent experiences with E30 in their GR Yaris.

Specifically:

  • Have you encountered any issues with E30 since your last posts?
  • How are you measuring the ethanol content in your fuel? Is an ethanol content analyzer a must-have?
  • For those experimenting with different blends, how are you ensuring consistent mixes (e.g., emptying the tank before switching blends)?
In my country, we currently use E7.6 without any issues. Iโ€™m considering trying E20 or E30 to explore potential performance benefits also to avoid LSPI , while staying within safe limits for the engine and fuel system.

Iโ€™d really appreciate any advice or insights from those whoโ€™ve gone down this road. Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards

I've ran 1.5 tanks of an E30 mix and it runs beautifully from what I can feel.
Would love to hear experiences from others.
My car is standard.

Any updates? Would like to try it with the DTUKV2 Box or will this cause problems since the ecu gets already a different signal?

Sorry for reviving an old thread with what is probably a silly question but...is it possible to mix your own e85 by adding odorless fireplace ethanol and 98ron pump fuel in the right proportions?

e85 is very hard to come by where I live.
