Just had the GRY serviced today - part number noted for oil on the service sheet is T08880-83540-US - TGMO 0W20Bulk not been able to get a straight answer out of the dealer as to the exact spec - they assure me it's the right one.

Does anyone know/ can confirm? Appreciate this is a different part number to the 1ltr/ 5 ltr but can't find any information online.

I'd be asking to see the bottle mate. The only 0w20 readily used is for the GR Supra and the GR Yaris, pretty much all other Toyota models use a different weighting. Problem is there's 0w20 SN out there for the GR Supra which falls short of the required SN Plus or SP. In fact I just spoke to someone on instagram the other day who had to go back because they used a GF-5 instead of GF-6 0w20

GF-5 still in use when I asked the dealer at my recall a week or so ago, it's just not worth it for long term ownership, sort your own

This, something like the Millers 0w20 SP GF-6 stuff exceeds the spec and is cheaper than OEM so you're as well supplying your own oil

Perhaps ask them via email and follow up with a phone call explaining that you would like a response in writing for your records?

If they're so reassuring that they used the right one, they should be able to confirm in writing.

At the same time (or if they don't respond/clarify), perhaps an email to Toyota GB asking what spec the "T08880-83540-US - TGMO 0W20Bulk" corresponds to, will give you a definitive answer.

The "Bulk" bit doesn't inspire confidence, so the sooner you sort this out, the better 🤞. At least you spotted it and you're on it👍

Hi I tried goggling the Millers oil but couldn't find the one you are suggesting. Where can you get this oil ?

I supplied my own oil to save any of this. These dealers are used to servicing "normal" Toyotas so it always worried me that they would just dump the nearest thing on the shelf into the engine. Not worth the stress so just supply your own 😀

If you are using your local dealer, I had mine in there for the 1 year service a couple of weeks ago at the same place, but did supply my own oil. They guy I was in contact with seemed ok about it (although I suspect it was an unusual request as I saw written “customer is supplying own oil ! ” 😄).

I emailed them Friday and waiting to hear back. Work means I'm not using the car at the moment. So pretty chilled, when I get an answer if it needs sorting they can fix it. If it's all ok then no sweat.

changed to this in mine the other week from whatever was put in mine at its service in feb...it had only done less 1000mile so was a sort of oil flush for the millers

it does seem to be quieter with the 0w20 gf-6 millers in

So feedback from the dealer and all is good. They did a really thorough job with the details they provided proving they had put the right oil in.

There actual mistake was the wrong code on the invoice, which has been corrected. The bulk oil would have been wrong.

I have been given CCTV photographic evidence showing the tech getting the oil from a barrel rather than the bulk supply, a copy of the label on the barrel showing the correct oil and spec sheets. Fair play to them.

Glad I asked the question.

slightly concerning.

It was but successfully resolved. If you do see the above reference on the invoice its the wrong oil.
Oh, Had mine serviced last week and that’s exactly what it’s got on my invoice. I too challenged prior to the service but was assured by the dealer it was the right oil. How did you resolve? As explained above?

I’d be having a frank discussion with them about the implications of an oil that may not stop low speed pre-ignition. AFAIK GF-5 isn’t tested much for LSPI prevention which will destroy your engine.

If they’re adamant they used the right oil then it’s on their head if something goes bang from using the wrong grade and do they want to foot the bill for a new engine?

I'm in the same situation with my local dealer, Snows in Exeter.
When I booked the car in I enquired about the oil spec they would be using and the bookings lady went off to ask, but came back with "it's the special Toyota one"! Not satisfied with this I persisted and she told me that I would be phoned back with more info, surprise, no call.

Rang again two days later, got through to service, asked again about spec and and after a rather awkward pause was told 0 - 20. I responded with "that's the viscosity grade, not the spec" and was rewarded with another awkward pause which I ended by directly asking if the oil met the spec as per my manual and as marked on the engine oil cap.

This was answered by yes it does, even though he clearly hadn't got a clue what I was on about!!!!!!!

NOT IMPRESSED

I'll be supplying my own.

They are either worryingly ignorant or know full and well that they have no intention of supplying and fitting the correct oil.
