GR86 Best induction kit for airflow?

Had the K&N CAI fitted for just under a couple of months now, but I'm doing a bit of an experiment and have put the stock system back in place.

The K&N sounds fantastic, and drives no different when you rev it out. But I am sure that I could feel a bit of a lull in the midrange which wasn't there before. It's difficult to tell without a dyno, but it just feels like the car isn't quite so eager to pickup sometimes. This could be psychological, and caused by the fact that the intake now makes more noise which isn't always matched by the acceleration. But I began to think back to the data that HKS posted about their suction pipe which I discussed with @KobayashiMaru86 earlier in this thread (https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/best-induction-kit-for-airflow.3125/post-105450) - they showed a graph noting that the removal of the extra chamber on the intake pipe does lead to a reduction of torque in the midrange. Perhaps that's what I'm feeling, as the K&N doesn't retain that chamber.

Also, when I swapped back to the OEM intake, I did so the other evening not long after I'd driven home from work, and I noticed that the interior of the K&N heat shield felt red-hot to the touch. Granted, it was a very hot day, after a drive, and I'd never felt the OEM intake in similar circumstances, but it did cross my mind that the construction of the K&N system does leave a lot to be desired.

No matter. I'm going to stick with the OEM box and see how it feels for a while, and if I miss the K&N intake noise more than I am worried about losing power, it's only 15 minutes work or so to switch it back. If not, I will sell it on if someone else is interested, with a bonus for any potential buyer being that they don't have to go through all the faff of fitting the heat wrap and seals themselves :D
First dibs please 🤣

Please do get some sound clips up, and from the inside if you can.
Any idea on rough cost yet? Seeing Eventuri priced at ~ £1300 was quite a shock, albeit not unexpected.
@Infinity any more updates?

There's guy who's just posted on Facebook who has your intake (an employee or volunteer for prototype development?) who says it sounds great and improves performance. I've asked him for some.sound clips too. I'd really just like to hear how it sounds.

Any further thoughts? Let me know if you’re looking to move it on, would like to give it a go myself. Cheers

That sounds amazing. Is the microphone inside the intake?
No idea. I like to think some of it was recorded inside the car. I've commented asking if there's a difference in sound between matt and gloss carbon, not sure if that's a stupid question. Also asked if it's in production yet, it seems to be available to order on their site but is priced in USD.

For a UK based company having everything in dollars is strange. If the price is in USD that's around £950.

Tegiwa list them at £1,100 and Swift Performance at £1,199.

🤷‍♂️

Indeed. I was going to hold off incase they offer any discounts on the forum, being a listed vendor. If not, Tegiwa looks the best bet (extra 5% off your first purchase), albeit a 2-3 week wait.

Infinity replied to me on Instagram...no difference in sound whether matte or gloss finish, and they said the intake is released and in full production. Hopefully that means theere will be an update here soon.

That audio is definitely picked up from the engine bay, I am still looking forward for some fly-bys shots... And honestly the price isn't that bad considering how much carbon intakes usually cost IMO.

What is intriguing to me are those dyno figures on their website. Unless there isn't anything sketchy in their methodology, those numbers are very good given that it was done on a UK car which doesn't have the additional filter like the US cars do. I also like the honesty regarding the heatsoak and temps.

Yeah, I am still of the opinion that really I'm only interested in better sound without losing power. But if the power gains are genuine, even though they aren't huge, then that does at least make the high price a little easier to stomach.

The guy who owns that car has posted on Facebook and claims it sounds tremendous and that the dyno runs were done independently, and that it's noticeably improved throttle response and power. I'm sceptical about that, but if it sounds good then I will be interested.

It does look very pretty.

I still have a sneaky feelign I'm going to want to Harrop Supercharge at some point so don't want to spend on things that won;t work with that....

But it is very pretty, AND sounds good.

Think I'm with you on that. As long as it doesn't lose power (heat soak incl) but sounds good I'm fine with that. Is pricey though. But, given the k&n reviews don't seem to be amazing I'm not sure what other quality options there are without spending big bucks

Sounds fantastic, never changed an intake before, what's the deal with the higher intake temp?

That doesn't sound good?

I may have done something a bit silly and ordered the Infinity intake

For anyone else who might be considering it, although it's listed as 1250USD (plus 20USD for delivery), on purchase, it's converted to GBP, so ended up £967 (based on MasterCard rates). So that's cheaper than ordering fro Tegiwa even with a 5% discount.

Bloody expensive, but those sound clips have sold me on it, and I got in touch with someone on Facebook who'd posted about his and he was proper chuffed with it.

Another round clip from their Facebook this time.

I am always annoyed when people are like "Hey I just installed this new exhaust/intake, sounds awesome, I'll get some sound clips!!" and then you never hear from them again, so I will try and record some when I get it. But I don't have any good recording equipment so it might just have to be a jerky phone video. Also, even if it arrives next week, I might have to hold off fitting until I have a lot of time, as I think the bumper needs to come off.
