GR86 Best induction kit for airflow?

@La3195 how are you liking the intake?
Hey must admit car has been tucked away in the garage for a few weeks now.
However, intake is definitely a significant step up in noise over standard. Full throttle is loud and raw. Part throttle gives a nice deep sound to add to the driving experience.
I haven't regretted any minute or pound to be honest.
Throttle response seems nicer. Not sure about power increase, I'd say it does feel healthier but could just be the response and noise.
If you're ever in the Midlands happy to show it off.

Thinking about buying this TRD Intake on my next trip out to the USA.

Does anyone know if it's a good idea? The price looks decent? It should be compatiable right?

I believe it is on back order everywhere so it will be difficult to find it in stock during your trip. One of the best out there, if you are considering it then get some replacement filters, I would buy one or two from you as mine got delivered after ordering it in November

Seems the TRD intake kit is available for order from UK dealerships (eta 10th May if ordered today). My local one quoted me £900+vat (the OEM price being £948:67+vat). I wonder if it could be imported for cheaper bearing in mind custom fees etc?

There's a thread on the GR86 forums where someone did some in depth testing of various intakes and I believe the GR product is the only one which made power gains, albeit still small when considering the cost.

However, in my opinion, given how efficient the OEM intake is, upgrades should be treated exactly the same as cat back exhausts - they should be purchased purely to improve sound. As long as you don't lose power, then I think worrying about price:performance ratios is silly. People will happily spend £1k on an exhaust that adds nothing but improved sound, so why shouldn't it be the same with intakes?

With that in mind, I'm not sure how much better the GR intake sounds compared to stock. I have seen a comparison video and it seemed barely any louder. The best intakes I've heard for improving the noise have been the K&N one (but it was poorly made and actually felt like it was down on power) and the Infinity Design carbon. There's also an Eventuri system (again, carbon). Everything else I've heard doesn't seem to sound noticeably better than OEM.

Wow nearly 1k but can see it's double the filter size of stock.
Also saw this one from pipercross which I don't think have seen before:

Foam filter, may mess up the MAF, and doesn't have any heat shielding.

Looks like there's been a big dump of these in the USA, and people have been snapping them up quick.

Next order is 4-8 Weeks lead time. I guess I'll be ordering one and keeping it at the Factory in the States for my next trip with a empty suitcase!

Now to do research on the need for the snorkel, would really not want to pull the front bumper off, I get anxious thinking about it.

Driven media had them up for $420, they also ship to the UK, obviously you need to account for shipping and VAT but that's alot more of an attractive price. If they get them back in stock I am very tempted.

Dyno plots show a marginal improvement across the rev range but it makes a noticeable bump in peak power near the top of the rev range, 17bhp! Not something I'd notice day to day but that's no joke.

Interesting, the infinity design kit also seemed to be getting positive initial feedback on increased power (by the standards of this type of mod) induction noise. As well made as that looks ultimately I’m not driven solely on engine dress up type aesthetics if there’s a marked difference in performance between the two.

It would be helpful if someone somewhere was doing back to back comparisons on all these kits to help deciding which is the best way to go.
