GR86 Best induction kit for airflow?

It should include it:

I have made my order with k&n website as well almost two weeks ago, used PayPal though. Heard nothing since then, and having seconds thoughts now seeing I would have to wait many weeks for it still...

Had a response today:

"We’ve been investigating with our accounting department and the advised that after further review of transaction, the original card was authorized 23/05/24 however we did not receive funds since authorization expired on 02/06/24 and hold of funds will drop from original card of purchase. We will have to cancel the order now and you can reorder the item. Please note that item will be received back in stock on 09-07-2024. Thank you in advance."

So I went to order again...and of course, the COllecting Cars discount doesn't work now. I fired off another email asking why and got a response earlier today:

"Thanks for getting back so quickly. The discount code probably it doesn’t work because the item is already under a discount in our website. Also, I would suggest you placing the order now, so you will be able to book the item and once we received it, it will be shipped to you. If you need anything else, please do not hesitate to contact us. 😊"

I went back again potining out that this was bollocks, because it worked the first time I ordered, and it was on sale then, too. Asked if they can still honour it, as it's not my fault the transaction failed. However, in the meantime, I looked on Amazon again and it's also cheaper there too, and it has an ETA of next Friday.....so, **** it, I've just ordered it from Amazon instead. £364.58, which is £19 more than direct from K&N UK with the discount, but hopefully I wont have to wait another 5 weeks.
My order is still showing approved. I think I am just going to stay quiet and see what happens. I am not in a rush.

Slightly worried K&N might be using the american date on the stock arrival date as the separations changed

The price included an "Import Fee Deposit" which I think is mean to cover all that up front....but I don't know for sure, I guess I won't until it arrives.

@grzoostuff you ordered from Amazon...did you have to pay any extra fees on delivery?
No extra fees for me unless I got lucky.

@Infinity any update regarding your intake system? Do you have any videos you could share?

Hi,

It’s in production now. Molds are almost done
We should see the first production run in July.

Our dealers in Asia have already placed quite a lot of pre orders for them as they have a lot of experience with our current range and what it’s capable of.

There will be alot more information and sound clips coming.

We can’t really take sound clips of the printed carbon ones as they have 4mm walls and really suppress the sound. This is going to be quite loud under load .

I like the look of the GruppeM kit. It would be nice to have comparable back to back testing to see what if any benefits each respective kit brings with it given the various types and price points of available options on the market.

This is a nice looking kit.
GruppeM always make attractive parts with decent engineering behind them.

There are air feeds mounted behind the bumper from the grill to the slam panel which slide inside of the airbox so I would hope that does the job.

Caveat obviously being as I said in my post that it would be nice to see back to back comparisons of all of the kits on the market to discover which is the most beneficial vs stock.

The air feeds aren’t required.

The area behind the bumper but infront of the radiator remains at ambient air temperature at all times once moving.

We’ve done extensive testing with thermocouples mounted to different places in the frontal section.

The stock systems snorkel takes its air from that area and the inlet temps are always ambient once moving above just 20mph.

Our system remains at ambient also with its large bell mouth shaped snorkel and it’s not going to get any lower.

@Infinity where would we buy and how much are replacement filter elements? I see stockists selling the kits but not filters for your existing line up.

The filters are around £75 each and replacements are available from dealers. They have not listed them because the filters really don’t need replacement for quite some time.

We use an extremely high quality filter with stainless steel mesh and 3 layer cotton. It can be cleaned numerous times.

On UK based forums like here you can purchase directly from us too as we are now a sponsor.

That's great thank you. Ah so they are reusable, I take it they are oiled filters?

Yes they are oiled.
We have tried to use dry filters when we first started up and the filtration is appauling.

Our filters can get really dirty on the outside but the inside remains like brand new clean.

Oil is fine as long as they aren’t over oiled.
We’ve tried that too and the filter manufacturers blatantly lie that the oil cannot become air borne. It does !!

We’ve had no issues on any of our production cars with these filters with MAF errors or oil bleeding out and collecting in the lower housings.

We are extremely happy with the filtration.

K&N filter was delivered this morning...so that's 8 days from ordering to delivery via Amazon and no extra fees to pay. Unfortunately at work right now, but hoping I'll have time to fit it when I get home.
Enjoy the install and watch those you tube videos to help. I hope you will be very happy with the extra induction noise!

Fitted!

Initial thoughts:
- Quality could be a tad better. The mounting hardware feels a bit flimsy, and the heatshield doesn't quite sit over the snorkel intake pipe. Close enough, but will see how it goes. Also, I screwed in the PCV valve as far as I could before it cracked l but it was still showing a lot of thread. Hope that won't be an issue. The rubber seal could be better around the intake pipe too.
- Installation wasn't hard, but it was a bit of a faff having to trim the heating wrap and apply it yourself. Same for the rubber seal; it's fairly substantial and a bit of a pain to cut and then press onto the edge of the shield. Would have been a nice if they had supplied it all ready so you could just whip the old intake off and drop in the new one.

- However...it sounds great! Under normal driving, it's absolutely no different. But once the revs get up and you open the throttle you now get a nice intake growl in the cabin. Quite similar to the GT86s piped intake noise. I've only driven it around the block and quickly up a local dual carriageway, so I couldn't exercise it properly, but I'm looking forward to taking it for a proper drive.
- Drivability....I want to see if it makes a difference to throttle response or anything. But at the moment, my throttle pedal is feeling very dead and spongy, because I disconnected the battery while I fitted it. Not so much for safety, but I figured it might reset the fuel trims and stuff. Did the throttle pedal calibration procedure but it didn't help. I'll just drive it normally for a while until it sorts itself out.

Regarding the PCV. Initially during the first install I could maybe do full 2 turns. I didn’t wanted to damage it so I didn’t go any further.

It wasn’t leaking but I got pretty bad vibration as part of the hose was touching something under load.

After couple of heat cycles I was able to screw it in fully, all good ever since. Go for a spirited drive and try to refit the PCV hose then.

Nice one, thanks. I tried nipping it up with a spanner on the hex, but it felt like the plastic might crack, so I backed it off a turn. It was loose enough that it swiveled to suit the angle ofthe PCV hose when that was refitted, but I can't tighten it any more really. I will drive it hard for a while and then give everything a check over anyway (I suspect the bolts and brackets holding the heatshield might need to be checked in case anything has moved around).

On the way to work this morning, I ended up on a slightly different route in which took me up a long, fast hill. Sounded good then, nice to have some throttle feedback when you open it wide :D

I would also like to hear your feedback regarding fitment with the hood. For me the hood is sitting a bit uneven since the intake install. When I look closely, the hood on the driver's side (your's probably passenger side haha) sits a tad higher. No matter how I re-fitted it, I can still see it a bit.

I haven't noticed that so far, but I haven't looked all that closely since fitting and closingthe bonnet.

One thing I wanted to check was that the the rubber seal was actually making contact with the underside of the bonnet - I thought maybe putting grease or chalk on the rubber and checking if it transfers to the bonnet when closed. When I do that I'll check the bonnet alignment, too.
