GR Yaris Balance of tuning and durability limits

One fun angle with that one is that it is more powerful than Koenigsegg's "little big giant" or what was it called.
So a GR Yaris has more powerful 3-cyl engine than a Koenigsegg's multi million dollar hypercar - go figure.

I've heard all sorts about Powertune and their claims both with current customer cars and the old Motive car. So far they haven't backed them up with any real world performance. Last I saw of this car it ran a mid-12's 1/4 mile because they "couldn't get the power down" but if you can't beat a GR with a stock turbo when you have 800+hp what's the point? They dabbed the brakes at the end of the run but no way they scrubbed 30mph off and added 3 seconds in that time.

Their published spec list is alarmingly short, hopefully because they're hiding something and not because they've just fitted a massive turbo and hoped for the best. I'd take their claims with a pinch of salt until we see trap speeds. Lamspeed trapped around 143mph if I remember rightly on their WR run and it has about 250hp less, i'm sure Powertune will do 155mph+ though and get in the 8's though right guys?

Dyno figures are easy to massage. Let's see what they do on the track.

Just found out there's a drag session on tomorrow so hopefully they'll put their money where their mouth is so we can see what it can do.

Apparently the staff have had to sign NDA's and noone's allowed to discuss specs of cars on social media any more for fear of losing their jobs. Very bizarre situation.

Massively fishy...

i feel something smelling funny here..

Nah, nothing suspicious at all. Especially with the car being at a recent drag event hosted by Motive but didn’t actually run for some reason. The whole situation is just bizarre.

Claiming the world’s most powerful GR but yet to show any real world performance.

Back on topic, why did the gearbox break? How much power do you intend to run on track and how long stints are we talking about?

Ended up editing a load of posts because it’s not constructive. If anyone wants to see a “740whp” GR down the strip though let me know as I can’t post a video in the comments

Why don’t you just share the original video. Quite easy to post a YouTube link to the original source video surely?!

I don’t do YouTube much like you don’t do polite conversation. Hate to say it but if you want it it’s on instagram, I know you know where

@GRimace With the risk that you come after me as well, i'd like to ask how you think a difference between 540 hp and 740 can be achieved?
Here is my arguement why it is "hard":
We are currently still in progress in building our car. We are still using the stock bottom end, standard gasket and bolts and upgraded nearly everything else. we used 1050cc injectors. we also used a g25-550 turbo. We got 509 at 1.8 bar on ethanol at hardly any correction done by the syvecs system.
We know that the fuel system could not keep up hence we got stuck at 509 at 1.8 bar.
With the commonly available upgrade parts, between 500-550 is not that special depending on gasket and bolts and how brave you are as a tuner.
the g25-550 was chosen because of its powerband and spool up behavior. In my case a street car which will run track days.
For the 740 HP built, the difference between what we built and what they achieved has such a big gap that from me there is a high interest on how they got there. Mainly because we are building a higher HP car keeping the driveable condition. We are also going a dual injection route (direct injector and port injector) for better control of the engine. So our guestimate is that we will end up around 650 on the wheels depending on whether we have issues with head lift and decide to use a ring to make it "closed" deck. As for boost, not sure yet as we have no reference for any other built going past the 600 on the wheels hence the interest and also skepticism regarding the 740 HP tune.

I too would like to know.

Spec list, full dyno sheet, correction factor. You know, the kind of stuff any reputable tuning company would normally post.

@GRimace Thanks for the reply.
As for the comment "a dog to drive", I have a very similar feeling regarding that and I would be really disappointed if it were a dyno queen which I truly hope it is not. Competition is always good. So still looking with a high interest to their build.

As for the 660, we try to stick with the scroll wheel of the 550 due to the powerband and upgrade the rest. From what I understand the hybrid g25 will have a max efficiency around 720 when done (on paper till I actually see it btw).

As for the turbo used on the Rodent/740hp, the mention that there was a g30-770 used, there is doubt that the g30-1050 is actually used based on the dyno graph published. As this is guestimating and basically repeating my tuner based on his knowledge, I can only say that there is confusion and doubt about what we know so far. Hence (as mentioned before) the high interest:)

Also out of interest, how long did you have to wait for the PPG set? I ordered it in may last year and was only delivered in december last year. Has the wait time improved by now?

@GRimace Thanks! And I'll just have to wait a bit longer:)
Currently again waiting for months for a very specific item. So am getting used to sitting on my hands and waiting:)

Well this is awkward. They're currently at the drag strip in Sydney and so far have done a 10.2, a 10.8 and a 15 where something happened on the launch. Still a good 8-10mph and half a second off the world record that Lamspeed set with about 530whp.

So far i'm unimpressed. Too much focus on a headline power figure and not enough focus on the launch or midrange maybe? Looks to go ok when up to speed but getting up to speed is an issue. The video I just got was a 1.99 60ft and 10.8 at 140mph, for comparison I was doing a 1.81 60ft with 340hp and a car 60kg overweight. I haven't seen the 10.2 run, just been told it happened before my mate got there.

**Edit- that's them wrapped up for the night. 10.2 apparently their best. Disappointing for a claimed 740whp...
